Pregnant after a Loss

Looks like I might need surgery...

Here's the backstory...a few years ago, after a lot of research, I made the decision to go ahead and have a preventative mastectomy due to the extensive history of breast cancer in my family.  I ended up having three pre-cancerous tumors, so I am really glad it went through with it.  I went through reconstruction and have been doing well for almost 3 years.

This morning, the implant on my right side is a lot softer and less full than the one on the left.  My surgeon told me that if that happens, I have to go in immediately and they would schedule a surgery to swap out the implant.  If I let it go too long, I will need to go through the expansion process again, which is one of the most painful things I have ever gone through.  I am guessing that I can't go into surgery though with LO.  Especially since I am on Lovenox.  I am going to call as soon as the office opens and see if I can get in and figure out the plan, but I am guessing that I am going to have to wait until LO is born and then go through the expansions.  I am absolutely willing to do that for LO, but I'm really not looking forward to going through expansions again with a newborn.

Ugh.  I'm so nervous and freaked out right now.  There is a visible difference between the two sides, and it will just end up getting worse.

Thanks for letting me get that out there.

  • I'm sorry you are dealing with this.  I am having the same surgery scheduled for January 24th.  Totally random, but did you have saline or silicone?  Can I ask what you are on the lovenox for?  I am compound hetero for MTHFR and was put on it at 10 weeks but then developed a subchorianic hematoma and they took me off of it.  I would say there is probably no way you can do the surgery now being on the lovenox and continuing to stay on the lovenox for little one.  Good luck, let us know what they decide!  Best wishes!

I opted for Saline, and I am so glad I did since it is more obvious when a leak develops.  I didn't like the idea of potentially not knowing about a leak for up to 2 years between MRIs.  I'm on Lovenox because I have a history of blood clots and had bleeding issues with my first pregnancy.  While all of my tests came back fine, my RE, MFM and OB all agreed that it wouldn't hurt to have me on the Lovenox and monitoring.

GL with your surgery as well.  Which implants do you have?  Did you also spring a leak?  Are you going to have to go through expansions again?  I hope everything goes well for you.

From what I have been told, the pregnancy should affect the implants because I don't have any breast tissue left whatsoever.  The only explanation for this would be a leak, which means they will have to replace the implant.  I am waiting for the nurse to call me back at this point.

You poor thing.  Haven't you been through enough already?  You'd think the Universe could cut you a tiny bit of slack and not make you go through the pain of another surgery, plus expansions.  I really am sorry that you're going through this right now and I hope that there is a chance that there's another less painful solution.  ((HUGS))
