What can you tell me about B strep?

A coworker's daughter, who is due to have her first baby any day now, was told that she has this. My coworker kinda knows about my Nestie resources, so she asked me to ask around and see what you ladies might know.

They feel comfortable with what her doctors have told them, but it's still nice to get info from others who may have had personal experience with this.

    I am positive for it...I just had to be hooked up to antivbiotics for 4 hours before delivery.  That way, it helps prevent the baby from getting an infection during delivery.  If my water would have broken naturally, they wanted me to go to the hospital right away (vs. waiting for contractions to be 5 minutes apart.)  It's no big deal.  I think 25% people have it.

    I tested positive with Ty- they administer an antibiotic before birth so that it's not passed on to the baby. No biggie : )

    I guess she was freaking out at first because they told her 40% of women have this while pregnant, yet she'd never heard of it before and she's 38 weeks along. She was thinking, "WTF?! Why did no one ever mention this before now?" I think she'll be comforted to know that it really does just mean IV antibiotics and everything should be okay.

    Let her know she's already survived the toughest part of strep B- the swab test. The rest is cake : )

    Ha! Yeah... I heard about the swab test. I guess it's true that nothing is sacred during pregnancy and childbirth! Wink Thanks girls!

    They don't test for it (usually) until about 36 weeks, since the only issue is with delivery. My water broke and I was pos. so they had me come in right away. Although it was irrelevant since I was already in active labor.
