Travel Toys.. 3 yo range

Looking for a few more travel toy ideas for DS (3 yo range... he's about over the infant/early toddler toys if that makes sense)

So far I have..:

Portable DVD player with 2 new DVDs
Magna Doodle
Melissa & Doug Hinges board
Magna Doodle
Color Wonder book
LF Tag Jr & books
Another electronic book

And of course I can always hand him my phone to play with if he's bored...

Re: Travel Toys.. 3 yo range

  • What about a magna doodle? lol. just kiddin'

Sticker Books? The kind that you can re-use

We have this magnetic travel bingo game both the boys love. We use it at restaurants and wherever. It has animals instead of letters. $5.00 at Target, in the travel section.

Cheerio or Fruit loop necklaces? We've done that a few times

  • Loading the player...
  • This fishing puzzle was a big hit.  So was this piano book.  I got them both at Kohl's last summer.  I will also try magnets on a cookie sheet the next time we travel.

Thanks!  I reread my post, and I hope I didn't come across as snarky when I said 'he's about over the infant/early toddler toys'...  I didn't mean it that way at all.  He's just outgrowing those cute toys.  I really can't believe my son is almost 3.  Crying
  • We bought a travel tray for our recent road trip.  Best idea ever.  This one.  BRU has them in store.  She colored a lot while watching her DVD movies.  It also made for a great snack tray.  She wanted it connected to her car seat all the time.  I found some great books full of stickers at Michaels, and I took along some blank paper.  She loved that.  Magna Doodle is a must have.  Those things really kept her happy the whole way.  15 hours worth.  Good luck.

  • My child must be strange, he could care less about the magna doodle.  He could really care less about coloring in general though.
  • Other than the travel tray Hav2 suggested, I think you are pretty much set. DD would play with her cars and trucks too in the car.
  • C is really into imaginitive play right now.  For our last long car trip, I took her Mickey Mouse clubhouse figurines.

It sounds like you are set though!  Last year when we drove to Myrtle Beach, we just made sure we did every meal and every nap possible in the car.

  • We just returned from FL yesterday.  For our 13 hour car ride, we took the following:

Tray that goes over the carseat so she had a flat surface.

DVD player + movies rented from the library.

    Coloring book/crayons

    Lacing boards

    Leap Frog Scribble & Write

    Leap Frog Laptop

    Books

    Cars/Mickey Mouse Club coloring posters

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse playing cards (Go Fish / Snap)

    Magic Paint Posters

    Bendaroos

Dry Erase Preschool Book (one of her favorites)

    Dry Erase Board / Markers

Wooden figures you color with markers

    Magna Doodle

ETA: Stickers - those keep her busy forever

We didn't use them all in the car, but it was nice to have extra stuff to take to restaurants, etc throughout our trip.  I picked up most of the items from Michaels in the dollar bins.

  • Walmart had by the checkouts little travel packs on the go activities.  They were in a small ziplock bag and had some crayons, a small coloring book, and a sheet of stickers.  They were in Cars, Sponge Bob, Toys themes, etc.  They were only .99 cents each and were great little motivators for DS on our last trip.

  • A good suggestion I heard on the radio today was to go to the dollar store and load up on different little trinkets and toys that will keep him busy. Just fill a bag with the stuff so that when you need to, you can reach into your big bag of surprises and hand him something he's never seen before.
