NBR: Help settle a silly debate....

This is a really dumb argument (if you want to call it that) dh and I had today.  We drove to Indy if it helps put a context to it.

Anyway, we live in Eastgate.  We have 2 options to get to I-74.

Option 1:  Drive north on 275, stay in Ohio, get to 74.

Option 2:  Drive south on 275, get on 471, then take 75 to 74.

I called option 2 "going through Kentucky."

So when DH and I left this morning, I told him the fastest route was to "go through Kentucky."  Off we went... south on 275.  As we approached 471, I said to him, "aren't we taking 471" and we proceeded to have this debate...

According to dh, "going through Kentucky" is not taking 471.  Instead, it is going around the 275 loop and staying in Kentucky longer.  Taking 471 is "cutting through Kentucky".  I say either way you've "gone through KY" so what difference does it make?

What do you think?  I told you this was a silly debate.

Re: NBR: Help settle a silly debate....

  • No idea because I'm in Dayton, but I had to laugh at this post. The entire time we lived in Oakwood, we argued about the quickest way to get on I-675. I took a way that backtracked but got us on quickly, while DH looped through town and through traffic to get there. He made us time it and everything, and still insisted that his way was quicker. So I can sympathize with you on this, haha.

  • To get to Eastgate, we sometimes take 71 to 471 to 275.  We call that "going through Kentucky", so the reverse route would also be true, right?  Smile

  • I'm with you.  471 is "going through KY" Big Smile

  • Why do men always have to argue over semantics?

    I agree with you.

I have to laugh, because we have this debate, too, right down to the timing of each route. Mine consistently comes up quicker, but there's always an excuse :)

    Kel, I agree with you.

  • It's one of those debates where you just agree to disagree.  You are both technically right Stick out tongue

  • So it's not quite the same debate as that but DH and I have this debate every time we drive to Indiana (he has family and my best friend lives in Indy so we go often). Living in Cold Spring we are as far east as you can get in KY so I always think its faster to go up 471 to 74. DH always want to take 275 W and then there is an exit you take where you take back roads (rt 1 maybe?) past like Perfect North that than dumps you out on 74 a decent way westbound. DH's argument is while it isn't any faster it is less mileage (I cant remember how many miles it saves you but I know that its more than 5 miles shorter). I would rather stay on an interstate than get off and risk dealing with traffic and getting stuck behind a truck or bus that goes slow. Q

  • I always take your way to get to 74 from Beechmont and I call it going thru KY. It doesn't sound like you will change H's mind no matter the argument so that's when I just say "yes honey, you are soooo right" and move on. But I could see us fighting over something silly like this too!

  • LOL, honestly unless my destination was somewhere in Kentucky, if I were taking 471 the fact that it were in Kentucky probably wouldn't even cross my mind until I saw the bridge.

FYI - if you're staying on the loop the mileage is less from 275 thru KY to 74 (starting at Eastgate). But... right now there's construction in several areas that direction so traffic tends to be slow, especially at night (they're trying to schedule most of the work at night).

No idea of any construction on the north side.

Not that any of that info matters now though. It's just that my aunt lives in Indiana, and my parents live on the east side, so we drove that path a lot when I was growing up, and from my parents' exit, the mileage is almost identical north vs south, so Dad always checked the construction reports to decide which way to go.

@kyfirewife, I think this is where dh's stance lies.  He drives to Lawrenceburg and back one day/week, so for him that's "going through KY"

Oh, and to skyllingsstadl:  He would absolutely not take Rt 1 to get to Lawrenceburg.  According to him it's too long, windy and slow.

Thank you ladies for laughing with me about our silly debate.

    From Madeira?!

  • imagedaves_sweetpea:

Or I'd take 275 as close as you can to Cross County & head west until it hits 74.  It should go all the way to the east side of 275 but Indian Hill protested (or so I've  heard).

This is true. Stupid rich people, ruining my life...

  • Kel - we always go your way; however, we refer to that route as "cutting through town."
