If you are not working this summer, did you

send your kids to camp?  From my FB it seems like I am the only SAHM that is not sending my kids.  Oh, and I should preface that all of these kids are 4yo, some going to Kindergarten and some are not b/c of cutoff.

  • I'm not sending Michelle only because we have soooo much going on this summer.  If we didnt I would definitely be sending her mainly to give her something to do.

  • Off for the summer. Sending my 6yo for two weeks of day camp. I think it will be good for him.
  • Yes, my children would mutiny if I didn't.  We have it worked out so they go for a week, then have a couple weeks off, to give them some variety and me a break.

  • My girls just finished a week of zoo camp and will be doing another camp at the museum in August. I have a nanny two days a week this summer, but my kids are used to lots of activities. They generally start to kill each other (and me) if we all have too much togetherness. I figured the two camps plus our vacation in July would break up the summer enough to keep us from climbing the walls. And yes, we have friends over or go somewhere almost everyday that I'm not working, but it's still all together. My girls are best friends but they still need a break from each other sometimes.
  • I am only sending DD to gymnastic camp 1 day a week for 3 hours.  I was not going to do that but her teacher really wants her there so she does not loose skills and she can pick up the new ones.  They are learning alot this summer and she feels that DD would benefit and they put her with the older kids .
  • I work p/t now but I've sent DD1 to camps even befor I worked. Just a week here & there. This year she's doing art camp.
  • My DD has had a couple weeks of daycamp.  At our local rec center, the session for 3-5 year olds is just mornings (5 days/week).

Between family travel and camp, I try not to have her hanging around the house for any more than 2 weeks.  She craves the interraction with other kids.

  • My 3 and 5 year olds will be going to 2 weekly day-camps. the 5 year old for the whole day and the 3 year old for half a day.

I am also thinking of putting my 5yo in a half day bike camp.

They love going to camps and will be going with their friends.

We are also going on vacation for 3 weeks and I may put my 5yo in a camp whiel we are on vacation.

  • They each have 3 weeks out of the summer at camp.  DS is doing his in late summer, 9-12.  DD has 2 weeks of full day 9:30-3:30 and one week of half day with her brother.  They wanted to do one week together and 6 yr olds can make a choice between half and whole day.

We avoided the weeks DH is home for part of the week, and they'd love to do more, we just can't afford it.  Besides I work all school year and want to spend some time with them.

  • No, they're not.

  • we are doing 4 weeks of swim lessons...and we have a pool membership, so any sunny day we are going to the pool.

No camps....couldn't find any that worked with our schedule...many were during the 4 weeks of swim lessons...and in July Tay's getting her tonsils removed...so its just better if we skip this summer...maybe next summer.  This summer is going to be spent at the pool.

  • im a sahm. r is going to camp at his preschool 3 days a week in the mornings. he is 4 years old. he is bored off his ass without it.

  • I would love to send ML to ballet or art camp.  She was begging to go with her friends from ballet class and her cousins.  It's only 3 hours a day for her age. But, if we pull them out of their school for the summer, we risk losing their spot, and the waiting list is really long.
  • No, but primarily because B didn't get out of Preschool until June 3, and he starts K on Aug 1.  Throw in 3 weeks of swim lessons, a week of vacay, and 2 weeks of time at Mamaw & Papaws, and there isn't much time left.

Their summers will always be only 2 mos due to a modified year-round school schedule, so I doubt they will ever do much other than vacation with us and a couple weeks with my parents.

  • My 4 yo. is going to preschool 2 half-days per week just to make sure he gets the spot I want for fall. It's nice b/c I get two peaceful mornings a week with my 2 yo. and the newborn.

  • No, I kept forgetting to sign them up for VBS. But it's only a week for 2 hours anyways. They will have fun with me, we are trying a New Lunch Recipe a Week thing here at home, and doing letters, numbers and what not a few times a week too keeps them busy and gives me ideas for Preschool in the fall.
