Hey all,
I failed the 1 hr test at 152.
So bummed about this...I was wondering though, did any of your fail the 1 hr test and then turn around and pass the 3 hr? I called my dr. and his nurse said that it's very common for people to come in and do the 3 hr, but I'm wondering what my number (152) looks like compared to people who have also failed the 1hr and then passed the 3 hr. I was really overthinking this the past couple of days worrying about everything I was putting into my mouth. Today, though, I just decided, you know - healthy decisions - that's all I can do.
But, I'm just hoping and am curious of those of you that might have failed, what your level was, and then passed the 3 hr. Just curious!
I'm definitely sending some prayers up though for the 3hr! I take it this Monday!
Thanks all!!!
Re: Did you fail the 1hr and pass the 3hr GD test?
I am surprised they asked you to fast for the 1 hour test, I thought that wasn't typical.
I opted out of GTT testing so I can't tell you any numbers, but I would try to remember that the 1 hour GTT has a staggering false-positive rate. Most places have to do it as a requirement for insurances, as most insurance companies won't cover the 3 hour test without the 1 hour test being preformed.
Stay positive. Worst case scenario at this point is that you are diagnosed with GD, they will likely try to stabilize blood sugar with diet and exercise first, and if that doesn't work, you may need to go on insulin. Just rest assured that you are doing everything you can to ensure a happy healthy pregnancy and baby.
I did! I failed the 1 hour with a 136 (seriously, 1 point, and they made me suffer through the 3 hour!) then passed the 3 hour with "flying colors" as my OB put it
Best of luck!
I failed the one hour with a 132. My cutoff was 130 which I don't really like that soooo many people on here have such a range of cutoffs! Anyway, I passed with flying colors on the 3 hour but it was really crappy.....waiting for 3 hours and getting pricked so many times
Andddddd I tested early because the baby is measuring bigger so now I have to do it again at 28 weeks, on Friday
the 3 hour test! Am hoping I pass again with flying colors again! I agree with the PP, just eat very well until your time....not much sugar, not so many carbs either since they turn to sugars.....
So, I understand your worry!

i failed the 1 hr with a 141 and passed the 3 hr just fine. i'm not sure about my figures for the 3 hr, but the dr. said all draws were normal. a coworker of mine and my cousin's baby's mama both failed their 1 hr and passed the 3 hr. i've seen lots of bumpies say they passed the 3 hr after failing the 1 hr. so it's definitely possible to pass the 3 hr and i actually think most people end up passing the 3 hr. i thought i read it was something like 85%...but don't quote me on that!
GL!
I also failed the 1H GTT with a reading of 142; doctor's office advised max was 130. I took the test in the late afternoon and it was "non-fasting."
The following week, I passed all screenings of the 3H GTT! If you haven't been briefed on what goes on...here's how the lab performed the test:
It was "fasting" this time, only water after 8pm the night before. I went in at 8:00am and was advised of the schedule:
Immediate blood draw and urine sample, drink glucose, blood draw and urine again at 1/2 hour mark. Repeat blood draw and urine samples every hour thereafter.
The glucose drink is nasty - it's sweeter and thicker consistency than the drink for 1H test. There were 3 other women having the same test, so we got to talk to help pass the time.
My advice is to drink plenty of water beforehand, bring some magazines or a book, and be sure to call ahead for an appointment. The lab I go to is normally "walk-in only," but they required appointments for 3H GTT.
Overall, the experience wasn't THAT bad!
I failed the 1 hour (I fasted before that test) by 1 point. I had 131 and cutoff was 130. I passed the 3 hour test. It's pretty common to fail the 1 hour test so don't worry about it. Just bring a good magazine with you to pass the time during the 3 hour test. Good luck
