I was really really hoping to put off purchasing any maternity stuff until August...
So, in light of the fact I may need some new maternity stuff sooner rather than later, how's about a poll?
What sort of maternity wear did you get?
What was super important that you wore all the time?
What did you get, thinking it would be important but not worth it?
What non maternity stuff did you have that still worked for maternity?
(Keep in mind my maternity wear is going to span Aug-Feb, and that I need to have stuff that I can teach K/1 in--no fancy suits or anything required!)

What sort of maternity wear did you get?I got 1 pair of jeans, a couple of rollover-waist yoga pants, a few dresses, many many liz lange tanks (good for layering under things in the winter because if you size up they'll stay long enough), and various t-shirts. Oh, and leggings. Topshop has maternity - I think most of mine were target, topshop, and gap. Oh - and I splurged on two of the ruched tanks from Isabella Oliver. Spendy, but they lasted the entire pregnancy as well...and I'm about to pack up my nursing tops so I might pull them back out and see how they fit now. They were cute and comfy.
What was super important that you wore all the time? Those tanks. I still wear them.
What did you get, thinking it would be important but not worth it? I was (obviously) conservative and in bed for most of my pregnancy, so...
What non maternity stuff did you have that still worked for maternity? Husband's sweat shirts.
I loved my bella band which kept me in some of my regular pants till 18weeks. I loved capri for the summer, I only had 2 pair of them but lived in them for the summer and if you get them in brown or beige you could work in them, maybe? Lived in short sleve shirts, and bought a light sweater for when it got colder, it was all I ever needed.
Thought I had to have some nice dresses (a wedding, my shower, friend's b-day party in city) but I borrowed a few dresses and bought one more for the shower plus a few for days. Old Navy has great maxi dresses for cheap and if they are long you can throw a sweater over the top for fall.
This was by far my favorite dress:
What sort of maternity wear did you get? Not sure exactly what you mean, I had to get some dress casual stuff for work and then also casual stuff for my regular life. Then I was put on bed rest and I spent most of my time in lounge wear. I got one pair of full panel jeans, a pair of full panel longer shorts, a couple pairs of half-panel cords, and I think a pair of full-panel slacks. Also, a few tops (loved the ones from Motherhood with the ruching down the sides) and the Liz Lange tanks, great for layers.
What was super important that you wore all the time? Same as PP, Liz Lange tank tops from target. I still wear them. In fact, I'm wearing one now. Nice and long.
What did you get, thinking it would be important but not worth it? I got a few pairs of nice work pants and then I went on bed rest so they were kind of a waste. I also got one of those Bella Bands (the Target version) and found it to be super annoying and maternity pants were just better.
What non maternity stuff did you have that still worked for maternity? I got a couple of flowy tops that buttoned up front so that I could leave them open with a tank under, I also got several empire waist tops/dresses. As silly as it sounds I would try them on (before I got really big) and then shove something under just to make sure it would look ok over a belly and that it didn't lift too much in the front. If it passed that test and I liked it, then I got it.What sort of maternity wear did you get?
I bought tons of sweaters from Motherhood. I also bought some pants from motherhood that were super stretchy and comfy but still business professional. I got them hemmed so that I could wear flats with them. I had a pair of pants in black, grey, brown and khaki. I only worked four ten hour shifts so I was able to get through the work week.
What was super important that you wore all the time?
The BeBand from Target was very important and helped me wear my regular pants for a while. I'd also recommend getting the Maternity tank tops that you can put under shirts, this will help you be able to wear your current shirts and get that "layered look" without having to go out and spend money on longer shirts.
What did you get, thinking it would be important but not worth it?
I would find something I loved and then buy a bunch of it in different colors. I spent way too much money during the time I've been pregnant and mainly for this reason. I even had sweaters I never wore.
What non maternity stuff did you have that still worked for maternity?
Longer, flowy shirts ended up looking pretty darn cute on once I had a baby belly.
thumbs up.
Example: the dress I bought for my shower was too big in September, and too small the day of my shower (but fit when I tried it on before I packed it the week before.) Hooray for growth spurts!
If your pants are tight use a hairband around the button through the hole and over the button again ... that helps 'release' the pressure a bit. And the beband/bella band from target worked great for me to wear my regular pants up to almost the end for me though by then the mat pants were more comfy.
I got a lot of mat clothes as hand me downs. It is a mix of gap, motherhood, JW, and old navy mostly. I wore the gap long sleeve tops the most I think, along with one or two pairs of jeans. Also this maternity support belt. I wore it every day bc I had a lot of back pain and sciatic pain.
Non maternity stuff - I bought a few tops that were empire waist or the kind of tent-ish/drape-y shapeless style that is in fashion now, it works great. A large men's cashmere sweater (I think someone gave it to DH and he never wore it). Also a pair of DH's pjs. Also I've been wearing a few maxi dresses all the time right now, and they're working great.
"Oh come on Gromit, a bit more, you know... alluring!!"
