Hey all,
I have 2 herniated discs in my neck that almost left me paralyzed last October (worst pain ever!). I havent had surgery on it and dont plan too. Dr prescribed muscle relaxers and pain pills which I refused to take unless the pain was unbearable like when it first ruptured (I couldnt hold my head up-my muscles stopped working). I tolerated the pain with just ibuprofen until I found out I was pregnant. Now that I am almost 8 weeks pregnant, my neck is causing problems again. I am freaking out because I really dont want it to rupture and leave me in pain again, especially now that I am withchild and have limited options.
I just want everything to go smoothly with this pregnancy and labor.
Has anyone been thru this? Are there other options? Any advice or suggestions? I go to the dr on Wednesday for checkup, and Ill definately ask my dr! Just wondering if anyones gone thru this and how they coped? Thanks ![]()
Re: Herniated disc in neck?
Only suggestion I have is to check into a good chiropractor, one that also does acupuncture. If for some reason they feel they can't work on your neck, they can give you some pain relief with regular acupuncture.
Good luck!
Thanks everyone. Ill check into these suggestions.
Surgery is a huge no-no for me. My family has a history of bad discs and other bone problems and I happen to get them all-lucky me! My dad, sister and both brothers (along with aunts and uncles) have had numerous surgeries to fix each disc that ruptures in their neck, back, shoulders and knees, only to go back in a year (maybe longer) to have more surgery. To me it seems pointless, Ive dealt with my herniated discs since October with ibuprofen, tylenol, and a half of muscle relaxer for really bad days. I dont like taking meds-especially when pregnant. However, I did go to a rehabilitation center where they specialize in back injuries and they gave me some tips on keeping the pain at bay...so Ive been doing some stretches and hot/cold compress. Seems to work for now, just worried about when I carry more weight from pregnancy and then labor. Thanks again ladies!!
