T&P - furry friend

DH just called and said he's going to call the vet to make THE appointment for his best buddy, Tiny Tim. Timmy is a 14-year old cat that is Rob's baby. He's had issues for the last year that we've been unable to diagnose without super invasive testing. Vet said could be cancer or a brain tumor - but drastic measures at Tim's age might be too much. We've been basically hand-feeding him daily for the last six months and he's been continuously dropping weight and getting more out of sorts.

Today, it looks like he may be close to the end. Timmy has lived out nine lives and more during his time on earth, so he had an amazing life for a cat. I'm terribly worried about explaining to Geneva that Timmy's going to kitty heaven.

Thoughts for DH in this awful task are appreciated.

I completely feel for you guys. My mom's dog was put down almost two months ago at age 16. The boys loved Sparky and we told them that Sparky is in heaven now, but they still ask to see Sparky all the time. They are still too young to understand.

Ugh, I'm so sorry you have to go through this. My dogs are my first born and I can totally relate to how difficult this must be - especially for your husband. T&P that things go smoothly. Take comfort in knowing he will be at peace.

My heart goes out to Rob and you and Geneva as well. It's always hard to lose a furry family member and it makes it even harder when you have to make "the" call as well. :-(

I haven't read Cat Heaven, but the same author did Dog Heaven which I love and have given to children who lost a pet.

Thanks for all the thoughts, y'all. The deed is done. DH seems to be holding up as well as can be expected. We've received much good advice in regards to telling Geneva. We're basically going to wait until she asks about Tim and then we'll give her the news.
