Power Wheels

Dh reeeeally wants to get R a Power Wheels for his bday. I don't like it, but I guess it isn't a huge battle I am willing to fight. I would prefer he had a trike that he power on his own.

If you were to get one, what would you get? The smaller ones only go up to 40lbs, he is about 30lbs but pretty tall. I would hate to get him something he will outgrow fast, but don't want something too big either.

I was shooting for a bounce house, but can't find one I love for less than $200 ish.

I think my dad is either doing a trike or a sandbox....going to ask him tonight. I also would hate to have a Power Wheels compete with a trike if gifted on the same day.

Ugh, bigger boys sure do want bigger toys! At least the dads do!

Re: Power Wheels

  • My neighbors were looking at getting their son a pw for his 3rd bday (day b4 r's bday).  They took him several times to tru and tried to get him to pick out a pw he liked but he showed no interest.  He really wanted a big boy bike (with training wheels) so they got him that instead.  (So who knows - the trike may win out over a pw anyway for R too!)  But the dad REALLY wants him to have one, so I bet they still get him one for christmas or something.  They were definitely going to get the 2 seater ones bc it is bigger and will last him longer (he is like 95% for both height and weight) and they have a younger ds as well that will get use out of it.  They asked us, and I said yes we would let their ds drive our dd around.  She would for sure be wearing a bike helmet, but I would be ok with it.  My parent's have their neighbor's old pw as well and it is smaller but same rules apply - she will wear a helmet.  If you are going to get one, I would get a bigger one just bc with you having in home day care also, I think you can get a lot of use out of it.

I want a bounce house too.  I almost got one used at a garage sale, but the lady was loading it into her minivan as I pulled up.  I def don't want to buy new especially since with the dog it might get popped.  It would be a front yard toy unless it could fit in the basement so we would be able to lock the dog out.  And then it could be a year-round toy so that is also more worth it.

DH really doesn't want too many more toys, especially big ones.  He says the house is over run, but the main problem is we have one big great room.  Which I love, but it does make the whole house look like it is toy-ridden.  I think he may be digging in his heals bc he knows it will be full of her toys plus all the baby stuff again.  I am really wanting to do a kitchen for her 2nd bday, so I am willing to not do the other stuff but fight hard for the kitchen.

  • I'd aim for the bigger one, sure he might not be very coordinated with it at first but a Power wheels is one of those toys that I think you should get as long of use out of as possible.  I'm also biased b/c my 2.5 yr old is the size of a 4 y/o so I feel like I've bought him some toys that he outgrew prematurely due to size.  GL with the decision!

I would love to buy my R a PW or bounce house, but DH already thinks he has too many toys (and doesn't know about some of the toys I've bought him more recently since DH is OOT).
