Selling at Consignment Sales

Last year I sold at the All 4 Kids sale in Woodstock/Acworth and made a whopping $13.  I don't remember there being a selling fee but I think there was a small one.  This past fall I sold at Born Again Blessings and did much much better.  I was planning on doing both for the fall sale since they are a month apart.  I went to register at All 4 Kids and they are charging $15 in addition to taking 30%.  Is it just me or does this seem a little excessive?  I think I will just stick to Born Again Blessings.

Re: Selling at Consignment Sales

  • There was a fee last time, but it went up this season for some reason. It WAS $8. And I notice you have to pay for it up front where as previously they would just take it out of your earnings. I don't like that at all! I usually do well enough that it may not make a difference, but we'll see this time. If I don't sell that much then I probably won't do it again with the new way of doing things.

  • Ahhh I thought there was a fee but I didn't remember it being $15.  Not cool for them to almost double it!  Especially in this economy!

  • That seems like waaay too much to me.  That is way over the top of any of the other sales I've looked at.  I think Born Again Blessings was only $5?  I also like that they give their profits to charity.  So the portion that they keep is donated and then you get the tax write off.  I always sell great at their sales too.  I usually do a smaller sale near me, like County Line Preschool or something else, that accepts other tags after BAB.  Then I take my unsold things and just drop them off, don't have to do anything.  I am debating whether I will do that next time though.  It seems that the shoppers at County Line must want stuff for super cheap because even my marked down stuff doesn't sell as well there.   I price my stuff for what I would pair, very cheap, and then usually mark it down more to get rid of it at the second sale.  Of course it is the stuff no one wanted at BAB but still... might not be worth the trouble and $5.  I may just donate whatever is left over this time.

  • They sent out an email today about the new fee.

Why pay up front?  We had over 100 sellers not drop off their items last season with hundreds of sellers on a waiting list to sell.  Our goal in requiring registration payment up front is to get a firm committment to alleviate the abundance of no shows.

Why the increase in seller fee?  It takes over 350 volunteers to help run the events at each location.  Our volunteer base has been dwindling and we have had to hire paid workers to fill the hundreds of spots left vacant each week.  We have been left with the decision on what to do to make it from a business standpoint.   While we love running the sales, it is a lot of work and we have to make it worthwhile to continue.   Our options seemed to be either to decrease the seller percentage to 65% or increase the seller fee.   We have made the decision to increase the seller fee to $15, remaining at $8 for those sellers that are able to volunteer for a shift.

If we find a better solution, we will happily go back to the old way of doing things.  We are looking forward to seeing everyone again!~!
