When we were in Virginia, DH's aunts said they would be getting us the swing we registered for and requested we mark it as purchased on our registry. It's a really generous gift and we did. They said we should see it by the day we got back from our trip.
Well, it hasn't come, with no word on it. I find it incredibly awkward to call and be like, "hey so... that really expensive gift you promised...?" and DH is kind of reluctant to call and ask too.
I sent out thank you notes for hosting us a few weeks ago and we haven't heard anything back, I thought that might be a nice feeler. It's totally fine if they aren't getting it for us, I just want to know so we I can keep my eye out for sales etc.
So WWBOTB do? Call and ask? Just buy it yourself and return one from them if it ever comes? Nothing?

It sounds straight-forward that it was a done deal so I would call and check to make sure the store didn't ship it incorrectly.
My second answer is you would know best if there is some strange family dynamic that I wouldn't know about and they might possibly say something like this and not follow through. In that case, buy a swing but make sure you can return it just in case.

There's not so much a strange family dynamic, as much as I just wouldn't be surprised if they wanted to do it and it ended up just not happening for whatever reason. They're all pretty tech-savy and otherwise on top of it, I'm sure if they did order and ship it they'd track it and notice it wasn't delivered to the right place or know if something else happened.
I think we're leaning towards just getting one ourselves. At least I am.

Check for what? I marked it as purchased while we were visiting, per their request.
Ok, I just reread your post. That seems weird that they would ask you to mark it as purchased and then be quiet about it. I hope you figure it out!
That would be a really awkward phone call.
I'd go get the swing, and if their arrives, return it.
This is what I would do. Just act like they have bought it and you just wanted to make sure that the store/mailman didnt lose it somewhere! So you would place the blame on the store/mailman/company not the people.
If it was either of our families that did this, we would just call and ask (well, we'd call our moms and ask them to ask)
However, since you're both reluctant to make the call - I'd just buy it yourself and if one shows up from them, return one of them.

I'd say call if you were comfortable or close enough to have that conversation.
My best friends dad, who is like an Uncle to me, bought my Britax convertible seat for Logan through BRU but since he is in GA and we are in CA, they did it so that the local store should have called to tell me it was waiting for me, but they didn't. It was shown as purchased on my registry but it never showed up. Finally he called my mom to see if we had received it since I had never thanked them for such a wonderful gift! But I wasn't aware it was waiting for me, so maybe something like that happened. So I would definitely try to find out before purchasing it yourself.
haha - I don't want it to make it sound like we'd be afraid to do it ourselves, but my mom is much better at direct bluntness and would hound her sisters in a heartbeat. My MIL may not be quite as willing to do the dirty work for us!

It sounds like they had already purchased it, & it should have been en route, so since it didn't show up, I'd call & just confirm they had the correct address (which is a nice way to make sure they actually purchased it). I'd be pissed if someone I bought a gift for (& told them to expect it) didn't call when it didn't show up & just went & bought it on their own. The point is for ME to buy it for them, ya know? Plus, if I bought it & it didn't show, I'd want to get that fixed, ASAP.
