work

I work as a manager and sales associate and i'm on my feet all the time.  We also work 12 hour shifts so i work 4 days and off for 3 days which is great but lately i've been so tired and sore.  As a manager I am salaried and required to work 44 hours a week.  I could work less hours a day and work the 5th day to make up for it but financially it'll cost a lot more between gas and paying for parking. It will also cause me to leave work at 6 pm which is extremely heavy traffic time so it'll take me an hour and half to get home vs. 40 min at night regular time. Not sure what to do?

    what is the problem?

Are you looking to work 5 days? or are you asking about how to approach it with your boss?

  • If you want to work 5 shorter days, you could look into working a later shift so that you go in later morning and get out later evening (and hopefully bypass some traffic).  That won't solve the parking/gas worries but at least the sitting in traffic worries.

Alternatively, maybe they could give you some work that would be sitting for a bit every day so that you got off your feet.  Paperwork or something along those lines.

I cant go in later because I only have part timers in my dept and they come in afternoons due to school schedules. I also work commission so leaving at 6 is tough because we are busiest from 5 to 8 and i would lose that $.

Sorry about the whining! Guess im in a whiny mood today! i'll try to snap out of it.

  • I would try and see if there are some things you can do to get off your feet for a little of the shift. Other than that, I don't really know what to suggest. I can't imagine being on my feet that long! Good luck!

  • I also work 12 hour shifts where I get stuck on my feet for most of the time since I don't even get an actual break.  When ever I get the opportunity to sit down for a few minutes I do but some days there are very few of those and I only get to sit down for the 10 - 15 minutes it takes for me to eat my food.  I wound up investing in a pair of sneakers and it has been helping quite a bit.  I know its not the most professional looking thing but most people probably won't even care when they realize that you are pregnant.  I bought a pair of skechers tone ups since they have a lot of cushion in the sole.
