I'm wondering if DS is ready for a booster seat (for meals, not in the car obviously). Is that crazy? Our table is apparently oddly low, the highchair is a bit too tall so that, even though it's pulled up to the table, he still has to use the highchair tray. I think it would be nice to have him actually at the table - for meals, and for things like coloring and etc. that we do at the table.
What age did you start your LO with a booster?
Do they even make boosters with straps (which is what I'm picturing, DS still needs restrained)?
Do you love your booster/ have any recommendations?
(Or, now that I'm thinking about it, could a spacesaver highchair serve the same purpose? I'd just like to buy one thing and have it grow with him, which is why I was thinking booster.)
Also, if your LO actually eats at/ from the table - do you just deal with the mess, or do you use a placemat or anything to help make the cleanup a bit easier?
Thanks!
Re: Booster seats
We use a space saver high chair for Jake still. Sometimes we use the tray, pulled up to the table and sometimes we don't (and he uses a plate at the table without the tray- really no rhyme or reason why we do either one).
We also have one of these: https://www.amazon.com/BabySmart-Cooshee-Booster-Classicwith-Travel/dp/B000XA8N2O (I got it at a tag sale for $5)
But it doesn't have straps so it might not be ideal for eating yet, but we've used it for having him sit at the table for activities like coloring/play dough/etc. He likes it, but like I said, it doesn't have straps, so I wouldn't use it for eating since he sometimes wants to get down prematurely.

We have one of these for DS:

We also have a space saver, but it doesn't really fit under the table, so we moved DD to that and put DS in the booster. This comes with a tray and a buckle, but we don't use the tray, just pull him up to the table. He uses a placemat and a plate/bowl, depending on his meal.
I really like this chair, since I can bring it with me when we go anywhere and DD can also use it (since it has a tray and buckle).
Good luck!

This exactly. I'll have to get one for DD to in a couple of months, since I don't think Nicholas will be ready to graduate to sitting in the real chair at the dinner table yet.
DS was about 14 mos when I put his First Years space saver up to the table. He has been using it since but it is a pain to keep clean (all the crevices) and is killing my chair. He sits best if he is strapped in and I love having him at the table!
I just ordered a Keekaroo for him, it is adjustable and goes up to 250lbs! He can take the chair to college! haha I have been looking for one like this or a Stokke, but didn't want to pay that much! I grabbed this one from Overstock for the same price but had a code for $20 off, free shipping, and a % back from Ebates. It gets great reviews, I can't wait! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0044R7I00/ref=s9_simh_gw_p75_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1BSFJHBXHWQGY19CK5PW&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846
