Breech baby kicks?

I decided to ask here since many of you who have breech babies have been that way for a few weeks. My little guy is breech right now and I either feel kicks very seldom or in my cervix. Sometimes I feel bumps above my belly button, but that doesn't last long. It's kind of sad because by this time with DD, I could see her kicks from the outside, running across my stomach, and it was so exciting and reassuring. Anyway, I'm asking what your experiences have been with your breech baby. (Yes, I know I have plenty of time for him to turn - that isn't the concern here.)

Re: Breech baby kicks?

  • My baby is still breech now - and don't worry, as your LO gets bigger and stronger, you'll see and feel plenty of movement. Mine rolls around a lot so I see that - his head and tush sticking out, etc. Also, he tends to flip into transverse so I get some kicks at the side...but mostly I feel his feet and kicks really low - so yes, I guess you loose out on that site but you sure can feel it! :)

  • Feel it, see it, need to adjust. This is my 2nd so the doc told me that everything is a bit more sensitive and lots of scar tissue but it hurts! Our LO has been breech for a few weeks now and as the previous posted mentioned, you will see the head and get lots of rolls and once they start kicking your cervix, you WILL feel it! I promise!! :)
  • My baby was breech for a few days a couple weeks ago. I didn't know until I went to L&D for decreased movement! It was that obvious (the lack of movement, not the breech position). I felt MUCH less movement those few days she was breech. It was actually a LOT more pressure on my ribs and stomach from her hard head, and more of a tickling feeling where her feet where.  Do you know what kind of breech your LO is? If you look at the different kinds and the belly diagrams on spinningbabies you can see where movement should be.

Same thing for me! I rarely feel kicks compared to my other pregnant friends and I was wondering if it had something to do with the breech position.

Once in a while I feel a couple of jolts or little kicks down low on the one side but I will go hours without really feeling anything. Or the kick will be so soft I can barely notice it.  The main "movement" I feel is her head pressing up against my ribs really hard off and on throughout the day, like sometimes it will bulge out more than usual for a few minutes -which I assume is just her stretching out a little further.

  • I feel mostly head pressing into my ribs, stretching which I feel from top to bottom and the occasional kick- which I feel mostly centered, but its so hard to tell. Often times, I have to have my hand on my belly and really concentrate to feel 10 movements in an hour!

When my nurse practioner finally agreed the baby was breech- she told me that was good to know because breech babies move so different. If I would have aonly known that before!

  • I agree with all PP's! I pretty much always feel her head pressing against my ribs. I've noticed as she's gotten bigger that it's been harder to breathe because of her position. When she kicks I feel them super low in my cervix. Sometimes I feel like a little foot is going to come out- haha!

  • My little guy was breech but I am pretty sure he has turned now.

Like other pps I would feel (& once saw) a big rolling motion below my ribs which was his head.

I felt his kicks on my lower left side, never on the cervix.  If I wanted to really feel them I would lie on my left side & stick my body pillow under the side of my bump.  This really got him going & he would kick like a crazy baby!

  • My little girl is breech.  She's been that way for numerous weeks. I'm 39 weeks. Believe me, the movement DOES increase.  She's in the frank or pike position so we feel and see hands and feet on my left side a lot.  Our favorite source of evening entertainment is watching her little head bob.

It looks like you have lots of time.  Good luck, enjoy, and hopefully he'll turn!

  • Thank you so much for your comments. It's reassuring to know that what I'm feeling (or not feeling) is normal for breech babies. I sure hope Charlie turns, too. Thanks again. :)

  • I am 37+ weeks pregnant with my 3rd, and this is my first breech pregnancy. Not until after she was turned did I begin to feel kicks. Don't worry. You are likely to feel the head moving mostly. Mine is absolutely making up for lost time now that she has turned, though. Beating me up and moving south very forcefully.

I can't wait for Charlie to turn. I want to feel his kicks more. *sigh* I'm glad your little one turned. :)
