This is a first. Ever. Well maybe since he was in the NICU. But first for real time he fell asleep in his bed, on his own, without me in the room at all!!!!!!!!
OH MY GOD. I can't believe it worked.
I had been laying on the floor while he fell asleep, and we had finally gotten to where I didn't have to shush him or hold his hand or anything. I just laid on the floor til he fell asleep. Then one of my friends reminded me that I once "tricked" Ben by saying "I have to go potty I'll be right back" and then just didn't go back. So 2 nights ago I tried it with Cooper. He cried about 10 seconds after I left, so I came back and said "I said I would be back, here I am, night night" and laid down and he laid down and went to sleep. Last night I was out for a couple of minutes and he yelled for me, so I went back in but he had already laid back down. So tonight I did the same drill "I have to go potty, I'll come back and check on you" and left. And he didn't cry. Didn't make a fuss at all. So I just went into my room and watched on the video monitor. After about 12 minutes he yelled mommy mommy and then turned his music on (on the aquarium thing) then laid down, sat up, turned it off, laid back down. So I didn't go in. And...
THEN HE FELL ASLEEP.
So now I'm eating cake!
Re: AW!!! OMG Cooper fell asleep
Enjoy your free time!
Yay Jill!!!! That is awesome news.
I hope he does it again tomorrow!
Congrats! I am learning so much from you! One day...
Of course, I read this post after about an hour of trying to get Isaac back to sleep. He's doing this thing down where he needs to touch every part of my face, hands constantly moving.... tap tap tap, touch touch touch. It's super gentle but it gives me the willies. I had to put my hands up, then of course he got mad that he couldn't do what he wanted, and an hour later... If my phone had been set up to bump, I would have asked you to come work your magic over here.
I am starting to think that even though he's only 11 months, he understands another technique I learned from you. I've told him a few times now, "lay down, or Mommy will leave." The first few times I had to leave for a cooling-off period, and he seems to have picked up on it very quickly and lays back down now. The problem is that his attention span is like 30 seconds, so he's up again pretty quickly. I'm trying to balance age-appropriate expectations for compliance and making sure he knows I'll do what I said I would.
I'm going to make an AWESOME big brother.
Awesome! I am so happy for you. We have over two weeks of going to sleep without nursing to sleep. It is so nice not to have the kiddo so attached to me to sleep. They are getting so big! :0) So glad you have your nights back. :-)
