Suppositories (WARNING:TMI)

Okay ladies, I don't know who else to turn to for this, so I am hoping that someone can help me. My Dr. gave me suppositories to take for constipation & nausea. Now my problem, everytime I insert one it feels like I have to poop, BAD. But I wait usually about 30 minutes then I have to go to the bathroom... But no poop?? It's getting very uncomfortable. Someone please tell me you have maybe had this problem?? And suggestions??

Re: Suppositories (WARNING:TMI)

  • I think it's normal for you to feel like you have to go after you've inserted one.  I mean, you're using almost the same muscles that you would be to hold in poop to hold in the suppository.  (TMI - sorry) However, if you're inserting them and still not going, I think you should tell your doctor.  I think they should probably be making you go if they're for constipation.

  • I agree with PP. If the suppositories aren't even working you may want to let your Dr. know. It's probably not urgent (unless you're in a ton of pain) so you could wait until office hours. In the meantime, I'd try chugging water, drinking apple juice, and eating some activia!  Wink

  • 1. are you putting them up high enough? If not high enough in your anal cavity they serve no purpose. put on a glove, and some lube and get that bad boy up there. Or try miralax. At the hospital we reccomend this to every preggo.
