Ghost Stories on ML and BOTB

Link

The link to the original ML thread is in the BOTB thread. Some of these ghost stories are super creepy. I love this stuff, but I have no experience with paranormal activity. Do you?

  • Love these stories. I have lived in two houses with paranormal activities. There were some strange things that happened.

  • Yeah, Lizzle - spill it!

I don't really have any other than thinking I saw my great aunt in my bedroom at night a few weeks after she died (I was 5 or 6).  And I'm fairly convinced that was just a dream.

But my BFF from high school has several... and they're effing creepy.  Just as a little background - when her parents bought their house, there was supposedly a full wall in the living room covered in signatures, all surrounding large writing that said "God save our souls."  WTF.

    * There are 11 kids in the family.  The mom has also had 6 miscarriages over the years.  She claimed on more than one occasion to have seen, while all the kids were off at school, little kids running around and playing in the house.

    * BFF and sister one year older shared a room for a long time.  When they were little they both claim to have woken up to see gargoyles perched on the end of their beds.

    * The bedroom at the end of the hallway downstairs was always given to the oldest kid who was living at home, so they'd all get their own room for at least a little while.  They all called it the Red Room because when they moved in the carpet, walls and ceiling were all red.  Everyone was super creeped out by it, but took their turns living in it because they didn't have to share with anyone.  This is important info for the next two...

    * BFF (15 or 16 at the time) was home with only one other sister, Lisa (two years younger).  BFF was in the Red Room at this point, and Lisa's room was two doors down the hallway.  BFF was standing just inside her doorway facing her mirror when she felt something hit her leg.  She looked down and there was a penny on the floor.  She yelled to Lisa to knock it off, and Lisa stuck her head out her door and said she didn't know what BFF was talking about.  About 30 seconds later it happens again.  BFF yells again and Lisa denies it.  Then, while they're standing there looking at each other, not moving, another penny flew down the hall and hit her in the leg.

    * One day, long after BFF had moved out, I was with her at her parents' house hanging out with some of her siblings.  We were talking about creepy things that had happened there and her sister (4 years younger, also moved out) told us a story.  While living in the Red Room she would often wake up and see a dark figure in the corner.  One night she woke up and it was standing right over her, breathing in her face.  She said she felt an incredible pressure on her chest and she wasn't able to move or to scream.  After a minute or so, the figure backed away and kind of faded into the corner where she'd seen it before.  She jumped up and turned on the light and, of course, nothing was there.  As she finished this story we were all freaked out and saying how creepy it was.  Just then another sister (oldest living at home... in the Red Room) got home from school and walked in the door.  Hearing us saying things like "OMG that's so creepy!" she says, "You wanna hear something creepy?  Last night I woke up to something breathing in my face."

    Indifferent

ETA: I've always wanted to use a Ouija board in that house but I'm pretty sure her very Catholic parents would not approve.

  • I have had a couple instances where I believe my mom has been around. My mom passed away several years ago at her home. A year exactly to the time my watch stopped working. The night my DD was born my sister who lives in the house now saw a balloon in her room moving around. When she said " yeah mom Quinn is here" the balloon stopped moving.

  • I haven't, but my grandma, who is a very conservative Christian and not one to believe in ghosts, apparently did. At the family farm she said she several times saw a man appear outside. She never told anyone because it seemed crazy, and she said she knew she should be scared but it always felt like a benevolent presence. One day my aunt (then 4 years old) said, "Mom who is that man in the yard?" and when my grandma looked it was the ghost, or whatever he was.

  • My exbosses next door neighbor's wife had passed away after years of him caring for her. They had a big celebration of her life after the funeral at their home. As the celebration was winding down, her neighbor got up to thank everyone for being there and afterwards 2 clouds blew in, in the perfect shape of 2 angel wings. It was a crystal clear, bright blue sky day with no other clouds. My boss snapped a picture and now has it framed on her desk at work.

  • My granddad's story:

My grandmommy had had advanced Alzheimer's for a long time, and we had no idea how long she'd live.  She lived in the assisted wing of their retirement community and granddaddy was in their apartment, in another wing/building.  One night he sat up in bed, cried out her name, and then found out she had died at the same time he woke. :(

    My mom's ghost stories:

My mom's dad, Grandpa Bob, died in 1973.  According to her, the front hall clock stopped at the exact minute he died.  I think there was something else weird that happened then, but I don't recall what.  Later on, in the late '80s/early'90s my dad, sister and I went away to Indian Princess camp and my mom was home alone.  She was watching a movie and feeling lonely, when she heard music.  It was coming from my room- a boom box that my Grandma Barb (Grandpa Bob's widow) had given me had switched on while sitting on a shelf.  It was playing a song (again, can't remember which one) that was meaningful to my mom's parents.  Mom called Grandma Barb, who said "I think your Dad is with you tonight, watching over you while John and the girls are gone."  My mom is not normally a believer in weird stuff but she did feel like her dad was there.

Mine (long but cool, I'll try to keep it short as possible):

Part 1- When I was a kid my bedroom closet had the only attic access, up two big "stairs" (for lack of better term) you could push up on a panel in the ceiling and go up into the attic floor.  My BFF and I one day wanted to see what was up there (I think all my folks used it for in retrospect was a few boxes of stuff.)  We pushed aside the panel, stuck our heads up and both of us saw a floating green-blue orb at the far end of the (windowless and otherwise totally dark) attic.  I can still see it in my mind.  We freaked, ran off, and that was that for a while, although growing up occasionally the radio tuner would move around a bit from station to station.

Part 2- Age 17, my BF was over and he and I were in the family room chatting, I was on the couch and he was in a chair in front of a window out to the front porch.  I saw someone in dark blue come up to the door out of the corner of my eye while talking to him and said there's someone here.  He looked and said there wasn't.  I accused him of lying until I saw for myself that there really was no one there.  I then recalled the attic story and we went up to check it out.  We didn't see anything else, but the dog started getting super weird and freaked out.

Part 3- My sister swore that there was no such thing as ghosts, I'd imagined it all, I was nuts, etc. etc.  No convincing her.  Then one day when out dad was out, she mentioned seeing him out on the driveway.  I said, no, he's out.  She swore she saw him.  I asked what he was wearing- she said a dark blue shirt.  I told her that no, dad really was out and maybe it was the ghost.  When she saw Dad was really gone she freaked out, and agreed that it must have been the ghost because she saw someone.

Part 4, our dramatic conclusion- I was waiting to read the funnies section before school one day my senior year of h.s.  My mom had it so I killed time by looking at a special section that listed people who were owed money from various sources.  After looking up our family, aunts and uncles, neighbors, etc. I turned to a *random* page (out of maybe 100 or so) and began looking for people in my town that I might know.  I came across a listing for our town and saw that the street address for the person was the small cul-de-sac right off of our street that had maybe 8 houses on it.  I mentioned to my mom, hey someone on Emerson is owed money.  She asked who and I told her the name, one I didn't recognize.  She said, oh yeah, he was the guy that built our house and a bunch of the other ones in our neighborhood.  He's dead, he committed suicide right after he finished the houses.

    : /

My folks no longer live there, and I have no idea if anything still goes on.  But I absolutely, 1000% believe that a ghost, probably the builder's, visited from time to time- maybe he visited the other places he built too, who knows.  But he definitely came to our house.
