Re: Flying with 2 month olds

  • I flew with my first when she was 2 months old and no real tips, just know that it is so much easier than flying with a toddler! There was really nothing to it. I BF on the plane, she slept, and that was about it. I was all nervous about it then but now I realize just how easy it was.

I completely agree!  SO much easier than traveling with DD1 now.  I'd recommend feeding on the way up and down to help with their ears.  They will most likely sleep most of the flights because of the "white" noise.  Don't stress too much, and think positively!

  • Easy! You can gate check your stroller and check your carseat for free. Feed on takeoff and landing to help ears equalize pressure. Bring an extra change of clothes just in case.
  • Great idea about the feedings...I just booked our flights and was starting to think about it!

  • Agree with other posters here, super easy. I flew when my DD was 10 weeks, she did great. I do suggest bringing a sling or wrap if your LO likes it. I put her in the Moby as soon as we got through security and she slept the entire time, she doesnt care to be in her car sest unless we are moving so it was easier for me. Our flight wasnt long enough for me to feed her on the way up and down so on the decent I woke her up enough to get her sucking on her paci.

  • DH and I are taking DD on a 5 1/2 hour flight on Monday, she is 6 weeks. Almost all airlines gate check strollers for free. We got DD her own seat so she can sleep in her car seat, we didn't want to hold her for 5+ hours and the FAA recommends car seats for children 20lbs and under. I BF/FF and pump. I bought some of the pre-mixed Gerber Good Start 3oz bottles to take with us so I wont have to worry about mixing and keeping things cold. I plan on just asking the flight attendant for hot water to warm bottles. Formula and breast milk does not have to meet the 3oz requirement for going through security, but you do have to notify the agent you have it. Definitely pack extra outfits for both your LO and yourself in your carry on so you don't get stuck covered in spit up for hours if you are going to feed. Ditto to what everyone said about feeding or sucking on a paci during take-off and descent.

When I talked to her pediatrician about it she said that DD would most likely sleep the whole time and I'm thinking that's probably the case. We bought some new toys to hang on her car seat for her to look at just in case she doesn't sleep because she gets bored easily.  Oh, I've also read that on most planes only the back bathrooms have changing tables. You might want to check it out before take-off so you have an idea of which one to go to and what to expect once you and LO get in that tiny bathroom!
