Success after IF

Dang it! My plan for survival was foiled!

Tuesday was my first evening/ night alone with the kids. . . today-tomorrow morning is my first full day and night with them!  I had big plans to keep us busy, get out of the house, etc., and I was very proud of myself for being prepared ;)

BUT!!  It's been thundering.  All morning.  And it's supposed to keep up the rest of the day.  Booo!!!!  He's bored, I don't know what to do with him.  He colored for about 3 minutes, he could care less about television.  He just likes physical play.  We've built towers with blocks and played with balls and rearranged the furniture. . . I've just barely been able to keep him from killing himself and have spent most of the day just wishing for the next time to eat so I have a reason to strap him down and contain him!

And poor little DD, she's been so neglected.  I can barely get her fed without having to rescue DS from some predicament.  I mean, our house is basically baby proofed, but he just invents ways to inflict bodily harm on himself.

I've been trying my best to keep DD calm/ asleep so that I can put her in her Little Lamb chair on the dining room table -  I know, I know!!  - but DS is bound and determined to "play" with her by tugging on her leg or sticking his hands in her mouth or sitting on/ squashing! her!  I put her on her activity mat, and he wants to "play" too, and just doesn't realize his own strength as he maneuvers to lay beside (or on) her.  (We're diligent about working on "gentle hands" and "soft touches," but he seems to become more obsessed with her the longer she's here.)

I've been at this for 6 hours and I'm exhausted :)  Don't know how you SAHMs of 2+ do it all day!  (Edited:  I don't know how any SAHMs (of any # of children) do it!  It's the hardest job around!)

DS just went down for his nap and I'm actually hoping DD wakes up soon so I can play with her. . . but, if that happens, goodness only knows when I'll wash bottles and make bottles and clean up from breakfast and etc.!!  (Or put my feet up!)

Whew!

  • My two seem to be about as active as your little boy- thank goodness I am doing it two at a time, because what you're describing sounds much harder!  I hope you survive the weekend!

  • Just keep doing what you're doing to survive - it sounds like you are doing just fine considering the circumstances!  Sorry that the weather ruined your plans - I hope tomorrow you can get out of the house and let your little boy get some energy out!

  • being "on" all day long (and night) is hard, Never getting a break. I was living away from DH for the last 3 weeks (he finally moved back with us after he finished his job) and it was tough. Not to mention I had my 2 nephews for a week on top of it....I was up at 6am and going straight until I hit the pillow at 10pm.

Hopefully it will go quickly! Put some movies in :)

Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever!
