Glass bottles: warming?

We decided to use glass bottles instead of plastic, but didn't consider at the time that warming them up would be different. DH tried to put one in our bottle warmer last night and the glass got super hot. (the milk inside was lukewarm). This morning I warmed it up in a bowl of hot tap water. It didn't get particularly warm, but Isaac didn't seem to mind. Google tells me that most people warm their glass bottles in bowls of water, but some just give it to baby straight out of the fridge. I'm inclined to try that next time, he doesn't seem picky when he's asking to eat. What are you all doing? This is pumped breast milk if that makes a difference.

Re: Glass bottles: warming?

  • We use glass bottles and we fill a pot with hot water and let it sit in there for 3-5 mins and it's usually perfect temp after that.

  • We also put a pot on the stove, heat the bottle a few minutes in the water and of course, TEST! :)

  • My LO will drink it right out of the fridge. Usually I pump into the meddle storage containers and leave it in there so I just stick those in a bowl of warm water and then pour it to the glass bottle or, if it's already in the bottle I let the bottle sit in a bowl of warm water for a couple minutes. It doesn't get the milk that warm but LO must not mind since she has no problem with it even if it's straight from the fridge. I do always warm the nipple of the bottle though with warm water even if the milk is cold.

  • We heat our bottles in a bowl of hot water. It does take a few minutes, which is a pain. I was considering trying a bottle warmer, but I didn't think about how hot the glass might get. Haven't tried giving LO cold milk yet, but I bet if he's hungry enough he would take it :)
