3rd Trimester

Breech @ 32 w - should I be concerned?

Ultrasound at 28 weeks showed breech baby but wasn't too worried as I knew he still had plenty of time to flip.  Ultrasound today showed he's still breech which makes me a little nervous.  After already having one baby vaginally I'd really rather not have to have a csection.  Dr. didn't seem concerned, gave me the whole 3% spill, but ultrasound tech said she'd be surprised if he flipped at this point because he already looks pretty cramped in there (I'm petite, 5'1").  I'm wondering if I need to start doing some of the spinningbabies.com excercises - (if you did these and they worked let me know which ones you did) or if I should  just sit tight because I still have a ways to go.  I will tell you that breech at this point is a lot more uncomfortable for me than a head down baby (DS was head down by this time and stayed that way).

  • I wouldn't worry too much, because there's still time. But, I'd definitely get on the spinning babies stuff pronto. It helps to be proactive, and like you said, head down is more comfy anyway. Google "turning a breech baby" and you'll find more information and techniques than just the spinning babies stuff. When one won't work, maybe another will Smile Good luck!!

  • I am doing the spinningbabies.com inversionsto try to flip my baby. I am also planning to go swimming and do a few handstands next week! Honestly, she reacts at least a little every time I do the position, but after just two days, she hasn't actually turned yet.

  • My DD was breech at 30 weeks and stayed that way.  I had a scheduled c/s.  I thought it was great!  Good Luck!

  • Definitely start the spinning babies stuff- it worked for us around 34 weeks, I think.  You still have time, but better sooner than later.  And you want to be able to say you did everything you could to turn LO, not that you just waited and wound up with a CS, right?  So spin, baby, spin!

  • I agree- breech babies hurt. I don't have a comparision- but this is uncomfortable!

I wonder if my girl will flip, even with spinningbabies stuff- I measure on the small side, with a normal sized baby. I think she may be too cramped.

  • I feel exactly the same way, I'm only 31 weeks but I to have already had one child vaginally who was head down from very early on.  Everyone says don't worry its early but I can't help but worry.  I am really wanting a natural child birth so today I went and saw a chiropractor and will continue seeing him throughout the pregnancy.  I will also begin trying other techniques after my next midwife appointment, I want to ask about spinningbabies because it says the exercises may not be appropriate if your ab muscles are stretched from previous pregnancy.  I don't feel like they are but since my pregnancies are pretty close together I want to consult with her first.

  • I'd personally start on the SpinningBabies stuff. My little guy is breech (although I'm 22 weeks, I'm still anxious for him to flip).

  • my baby was breech at 30 weeks and she was breech at 36 and 37! SO! I am scheduled for a c/s on Wed! I have been doing the spinning baby pelvic rocks but where I see her and feel her are the exact same as they've always been so I'm sure she's still breech. U/S to confirm this on Wed before the cut me.

  • My LO was breech at my 37w appt but today at 38w5d he is now head down.  I wouldn't worry, your LO has plenty of time to head in the right direction!

  • My LO was breech for the entire 3rd trimester.  I tried the exercises and they did not work for me.  I went into labor the night before my scheduled C-section and I was 39 weeks.  My LO never flipped.  I read that sometimes babies are breech for a reason.  Good luck:)

  • I wouldn't be too concerned until 36 weeks, but another idea is to find a chiropractor trained in webster technique.

  • My good friend was breech at 32 weeks but got her LO to flip using the spinningbabies.com techniques. I had two other friends tell me that they were both scrubbed up & ready for surgery when their LOs flipped on their own.

My LO has been breech since 20 weeks, and there are medical reasons why she doesn't have room to flip which is why I haven't really tried. Since I've always known that a scheduled c/s was a very real possibility, I'm not too fussed about it.

    Good luck!

  • My baby girl was breech at my 34 week appointment and I have already felt her move.  Unfortunately for me, she was bottom down at my appointment and now she has been sitting sideways for 3 da'ys.  It hurts pretty bad when she stretches because I have a head pushing on my right side and two feet pushing my left side.  I can feel your pain.  My doctor said not to worry too much and she is already starting to turn.  Hopefully she can make her way head down soon, but I'm pretty small and she feels pretty snug right now.
