Is that a porcupine? (TMI)

Well ladies.. I believe I have somehow managed to get the dreaded (dun dun dun...) hemorrhoids. Surprise

I started feeling itching and then horrible pain (like I was pooping out a porcupine) about 3 or 4 days ago. I'm using Tucks pads but that's about it. I read online that I should contact my doctor if there's bleeding, which there is, but the thought of getting my butt examined and having hemorrhoids on top of it doesn't sound like fun.

Can anyone who has been blessed with these horrible things offer some suggestions on how I can get them cleared up on their own? How long am I going to have to deal with porcupine butt?

  • If you  have a detachable showerhead, direct it at the area on the hottest setting you can stand, and massage with your hands too. Worked wonders. If not, get in the tub, hot water, massage.

Couldn't tell you how long it'll take for them to go away, though... A few days to a few weeks.

Make sure you're getting enough fiber in your diet, too.

    Sorry!

  • I didn't realize you're supposed to contact your doc if they bleed.  Oops!

I just used the tucks pads, hot water (couldn't do the massage - it hurt!) and gave it time.  Things are better now.  It took 2 weeks for it to totally go away (got mine from pushing during labor).  During pregnancy I had a much smaller one that only took a couple days to go away, so I think it depends on its size.

ETA:  Like PP said - Fiber!  I made sure I had lots of fiber in my diet AND supplemented (Fiber Choice tablets is what I use).

Currently... Pregnant with mo/di BOY TWINS!  Due September 15.  Latest induction will be 37w.
  • Ive never had them but ive heard that soaking some cotton balls in witch hazel and gently dabbing them on there helps with the pain and may help heal them up. Good luck girl!

  • My MW told me (while still pregnant) if I got them and could spend a day of two laying down and not sitting or standing much that it would help.  Not that you can do that now, but I imagine if you keep the vertical pressure off as much as you can it would help.
