NSAIFR - What to buy a 1 yr old?

hi girls!

My good friend's son is turning 1 and I wanted to buy him some type of learning toy for his birthday. I figured I'd ask the experienced mamas what a good gift would be. I'd like to get something fun that will help him talk, walk, learn, etc. Any suggestions?

**edit to add I can spend up to $50

Around 1, Sam would play with anything for a couple of minutes. He was on the cusp of being interested in puzzles or stacking blocks or shape sorters, but his interest in those wasn't quite what it is now. A push toy is fun - Sam liked the classic "popcorn" toy:

But he was an early walker so he could actually push it around.

I would recommend this and this. They were both first birthday gifts that are still being played with, DS loves them both. Not necessarily educational but very useful and the plane does have a shape sorter and can be helpful for an early walker to push.

Hopefully Kimarino will chime in b/c she has a list of great gift ideas in her blog. My kids love their FP laugh and learn barn ($59 on amazon). They also really like the My First Touch and Feel cards. We also received a water table that they enjoy pushing around the kitchen (hopefully it will warm up so we can try it outside with water!).
