Still wash new clothes before wearing?

Do you still wash your LO's new clothes before your LO wears them? I pre-washed all of my LO's newborn clothes, but I'm feeling lazy and don't really want to pre-wash his clothes anymore unless there is a good reason...

I don't pre-wash most clothes that I buy for myself - is that gross? Am I missing something?

  • I still do, but I think it is mostly because it is easier to just throw it in the hamper when it is coming in piece by piece and then when its clean I put everything away at once.

  • It depends. Liiiike if I buy em online I typically don't bother, but if I buy em in a store I most likely do. In my warped mind they're not handled as much online as the store stuff. Oh I also don't generally wash if it's dark colored clothing- it fades too quickly & I loathe faded navy/black.

  • I never really have because I feel like they already look so used and worn even after just one wash. I've only pre washed things I got at a used clothing store.

  • I start thinking of all the people in the store touching, coughing, germing it up, then I do.haha.

  • I don't anymore...but I also think that some germs are good for the immune system, so maybe I'm just gross.  :)

  • Personally I think it's gross not to, but I do get that a lot of people don't. I worked in clothing retail before and the clothes are generally sprayed with flame retardant chemicals (possibly formaldehyde?) before shipping to the store. Then they come in big plastic smelly bags in big smelly boxes. Actually the reason that I wash clothes first is that I myself break out in a rash every time I wear unwashed clothes.

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. It generally depends on how much laundry I have to do ;)

This. I got a chemical burn/rash from being too lazy to wash a sweater. Lesson learned. So everything in our house gets washed first.

Stuff like this grosses me out.

    I still wash everything.

I worked in retail all through high school and college too, and I wash everything before anyone wears it (DS, DH, or me.)

  • I always wash everything first, for myself and LO. It creeps me out not to.
