Spit up through the nose?

Does anyone else have this problem with their LO? My LO has been spitting up through her nose at least a few times during the day/night. At first it was scary and of course she just crys and I always suck it out but I was wondering if there is anyway to help prevent this? I have inclined her crib mattress with a rolled up towel thinking that would help some and she does burp a few times through out her feedings and I do hold her upright after she is done eating for about 20 mins. We currently use Dr Browns bottles maybe we should try something else? Maybe its the Neosure that she is on? She currently takes anywhere form 75ml to 80ml and I have decreased that amount on some of her feedings thinkng maybe she was taking in to much but that still did not help. Thoughts?

    Have you talked to your doctor about reflux? My DD does this a lot when her reflux medications aren't working right.

    One of my guys did this and it was reflux.

    My son has reflux and spits up through his nose a bit.  I don't think it's too much to be concerned about (at least my doctors weren't concerned).  I was, however,  told not to use the suction bulb too much though because it can irritate the nasal passage.  Usually the spit up is "up and out" and the passage is clear afterward anyway.  If he gets congested I use saline spray to flush it out.

    Mine did this early on and now occasionally.  I mentioned it to my doc and he said it was a touch of reflux.  They don't do it much anymore.  Maybe now and then when they don't get a good burp out and we lay them down.

    scarlette's reflux causes this sometimes. If it is that often, I'd talk to your dr. I say that b/c DDs was bad enough that they sent us home w/a suction machine. Be sure to suction her nose out w/a bulb syringe really good after!

    My LO does this all the time. He's got pretty bad reflux, I call him my little volcano. I don't suction his nose unless he sounds congested. My Dr said doing it to much can irritate the nasal passages.

    Thanks Ladies!! It sounds like its reflux from what everyone has be saying. I thought reflux was when your LO wont take a bottle and fights taking one and is not gaining weight and really spitting up alot. This is from what I have read online. We dont have that problem with her not taking a bottle. I think I might put a call in to the Dr tomorrow and see what he has to say about it!

    Fighting the bottle comes later. The more the spit up, the more irritated their esophagus gets and then the don't want to eat because it hurts. This causes them to lose weight.

    Not to alarm you or make you scared, just so you bolo. The spit up through the nose can lead to apnea episodes. DS had bad reflux and he started out having spit ups through his nose etc then one night I saw him not being able to breathe, a few days later he had to have a monitor. But like OP said it may just be as simple as clearing the nasal passage. Mention this to her pedi.
