Success after IF

s/o infant carrier carseats

I know they have weight:height requirements, but does anyone really carry their LO in them up til they reach the limit? Just curious-Henry weighs 15 lbs and I feel like I'm about to have a stroke when I carry him for 30 seconds in our chicco keyfit 30. Should I stop using it or do I need to start weight training?

Re: s/o infant carrier carseats

  • I hear you!  DD is 15lbs and that seat is heavy!!  BUT the convenience is worth it.  I will use it until she can sit in a cart on her own (which I am looking forward to bc a toddler and infant seat dont leave much room in the cart for shopping!).

  • we bailed on ours as soon as it was warm enough to not have to mess wth coats and such...DS was around 8 months i think...and over 20 pounds!  I rarely carried him in it those last couple months, if DH was around, I made him do it!! Stick out tongue
  • DS is still in his. Baby trend. I think the weight limit is 30 lbs, I forget height. Noah is only 17 lbs so he has a ways to go, but the thing is extremely heavy. DH carries it most of the time. We just love having the convenience of the snap n go. Especially when he is alseep. Going to miss it.

With my older daughter, I used it until she hit a year (she was a peanut but it was still quite heavy towards the end and hit 18 lbs around 12 months).  I think it's about personal preferences in terms of how long you choose to use it up to the weight limit.

  • When DD got too heavy to carry in it, but before she had reached any of the limits, we just started leaving it in the car. By that point, she could be in her big stroller without the car seat attachment and we left the SNG frame in the car anyways. So we just took her in and out of it, unless we were using the SNG (then we would just transfer it to the stroller, but that didn't involve carrying her in it for very long).

  • Newborn or a year old, I only ever carry the baby in the seat if she's asleep.  But yeah, she's 20 lbs. already, and I do sometimes carry her in it.  It's miserable!  Still, although I carry the seat rarely, the ability to do so is one of the big reasons I love the infant seat, so I'm just grateful it exists.  Once I have to start waking her up neither of us will be happy!  I have callouses on my right hand but at least she usually stays asleep those times. ;)

I kept my DDs in them as long as I could!  I finally switched them when they hit the height limit--about a year for one DD and a few months later for the other DD.  They were heavy, but for me, it was much easier carrying two heavy carseats than two squirmy babies/toddlers!

  • I just carried my almost 30lbs DD in my ergo last weekend!!! That thing is so awesom, I don't feel the weight!

  • I stopped using the infant carrier at 6 months old.  I really, really, really wish I could've continued to use it.  He wasn't sitting really well yet and I constantly had to take the stroller out to put him in to do the easiest of errands because holding him, bags, and trying to pay were horrendous.  It added a lot of extra time to my errands than before.

He outgrew the height limit on his seat.  He is currently 22 lbs so he would still be under the weight limit for his seat.  Honestly, I missed that infant carseat for about 2 months until he sat comfortably in the shopping carts with his little cart cover.
