I am having a birth in a birth center staffed by midwives. There will be one midwife attending my birth, so the midwifes require the hiring of an outside birth assistant. I know that BAs aren't common everywhere but they are basically a step between a doula and a midwife. They assist the midwife to provide labour support, monitor my vital signs and fetal heart rate, can deliver the baby if necessary (including issues of shoulder dystocia, treat postpartum hemorrhage, and can do newborn resuscitation. They are also lactation consultants and come to your home after the birth to provide breastfeeding information and support. A lot of them are nurses or in training to be midwives.
Anyway, I am interviewing a lady tonight and I don't know what questions to ask ha ha. Help is much appreciated! Thanks!
Re: Questions to ask a Birth Assistant
i don't have anything for BAs, but these lists of questions to ask your MW or doula might be a good starting point.

I have honestly never heard of a BIrth Assistant, but I birthed in a hospital. I had a doula and used the questions suggested on DONA.org but didn't need most of them... I asked her about her experiences being a doula and she answered pretty much anything I needed to know.
