I read on KellyMom that taking Metformin/Glucophage while BFing can help with milk production. Just curious if anyone is on it and Bfing?
I was on Met prior to getting pregnant and stopped taking it (for no reason really). I was going to ask my OB to give me another RX for it at my 6wk check up to help me get my weight back under control, but I think I'm going to call him Monday and ask for it now. DD3 is having trouble gaining weight and I've been supplementing with pumped milk since she was born. I'm hoping it will help me produce more milk for her so that our life doesn't revolve around this constant nursing, pumping, bottle feeding cycle.
Thanks!
Re: PCOS & BFing -- are you taking meds?
DD1 born 5/24/10.
Missed M/C at 14 wks Feb 2012.
DD2 born 5/14/13.
Missed M/C at 9 wks July 2015.
KellyMom said it could go one way or the other, either produce too much or too little, depending on which of your hormones are out of whack.
I have PCOS and am underproducing (actually will probably have to start supplementing with formula soon since my freezer stash is just about gone)
I'm not on any meds
I'm not on meds and Endo isn't comfortable with me starting back on metformin while BFing because there aren't a lot of studies on it's effect on the baby. I stopped it at 13 weeks gestation once the risk of miscarriage in the first trimester had passed. I'm supplementing with formula although today we haven't been and it's been going well (I still don't produce more than 1 oz when pumping though). I take Fenugreek every day and am eating oatmeal 2x/day to help increase my supply.
I've asked them about Domperidone but she hasn't gotten back to me yet. I wish I had the oversupply problem. I hate that LO will have to get formula all day while I'm at work...
I am over producing though and I have been block nursing for the last 3 days. Seems to be helping.
