Alright this may be a completely stupid question, but I've been wondering...DH and I leave for the Bahamas on the 1st! Yay! Bigger yay is that I should be Oing on the 7th or 8th and DH will actually be in town this month. DH is a big hot tub fan. Since we'll be in the Bahamas from July 1-7th would you tell him to stay out of the hot tub or say don't worry?
This has been bugging me so much. I don't want to be the crazy "you can't have fun cause I want to get knocked up" crazy person, but knowing that DH is only around a few days a month is hard. So getting pregnant will take longer anyway.
Re: TTC, hot tubs, and a stupid ?
If it were me, I might just try to do other things and not really suggest the hot tub. Does that make sense? I didn't want DH to feel like I was nagging him about things even though they were on my mind (things like what you're saying.) So, if it were me I might just suggest swimming or something else as opposed to spending the time in the hot tub. If he were home all the time, I wouldn't really worry about it but if there's a possibility that he won't be home during O times I'd want to take advantage of it when I can.
Good luck and have lots of fun!
Well, it won't be a factor in this cycle. The spermies waiting in line to knock you up are already fully grown. However, it's the immature sperm that are being produced for future cycles that could be harmed. From a webby site:
Excess heat applied to the testicles of animals does indeed cause a decrease in sperm production. A study in California showed that men who used hot tubs experienced a drop in sperm production. However, when the heat is avoided for several months, sperm production should return to normal. The production of sperm is a process requiring approximately three months. Consequently, when any condition or factor injurious to production of sperm is removed, a change in sperm quantity or quality should not be expected for a minimum of three months.
Any excessive application of heat can damage sperm. The testicles are outside the male body because they require a lower temp for the cells to divide correctly and create "high quality sperm". Some men have infertility issues from wearing tighty whities alone! They keep the testes too close to the body and therefore too warm for proper growth. For most men, a drop in sperm production may be no big deal. But if the counts are already borderline etc, it's stacking the odds against you.
