February 2011 Moms

How on earth do you find other mommies to hang out with?

I'm starting to think this town sucks even more because I can't for the life of me find anything to take DD to with other babies for her to look at.  Or mommies for me to connect with.  Anyone I know who has kids lives over half an hour away and I'm not into traveling so much.

My sister lives in a tiny village in Ireland and connects with other moms at a breastfeeding support group.

For me, I work with other young teachers and a group of us all have kids about the same age.

  • Unfortunatly, I dont.  Expecially since I have two older boys as well.  I know parents from cub scouts, but no other parents to just go hang out with.
  • I;m really lucky- I connected with a great mommy's group from a hospital in the area (not even the one I delivered at) and also moved to a VERY parent involved neighborhood right before DS was born. I weeded some groups out, but there was a time when I was part of 4 playgroups!

  • Some women I know have had great success finding moms groups via meetup.com. Have you tried that? Story time at the library is also big around here. Our community center also has some mommy and me classes that I've heard are pretty good.

    Good luck!

  • I'm going through the same thing. I have a 13 yr old and 10 yr old and have really great friends that I met through my kids sports. But since now that I have started over being a new mommy, I've drifted apart from many of my friends. We still chat here and there but I don't have any mommy friends to hang out with. When LO is 6 months we can take swimming lessons at out ymca, we will start there. I see alot of people on here go to libriaries, guess calling and finding out info couldn't hurt.

  • PP suggested meetup.com. I checked it out and there is a group in my town! YAY! Another one I saw that website suggested was momsclub.org.

  • The hospital has a new mom's network group that meets twice per month. You may also want to try your library's programs for babies. I'm going to baby safari at the library in two weeks.

  • That's why I joined the Raise a Reader program through our local library when M was 10 weeks old. Haven't found anyone we really "connect" with, yet considering most are making park play dates, but I'll keep going until we are to that point, I guess.

  • I joined a few support groups.  Le Leche League, a postpartum group, and a few meetup groups so I could meet other mammas.  I do live about 25-30 mins from most of them, but its still nice to have them.  We are the first in our group to have kids.. so none of my friends get me anymore. but these groups have ppl that understand me and I can talk to.  Good luck meeting ppl.
