We've started supplementing with formula and to my great relief, Charlie likes and does well with Similac Advance. We're working through a sample can, but have nothing after that. I should have paid attention months ago when this was a frequent topic, but alas - I didn't.
Any tips on using formula checks? What stores have the best policies? General do's and don'ts?
TYIA!
Re: Tips on using formula checks
Stack checks with coupons when possible. Also, manufacturer's coupons and store coupons are different and can be used together.
For example,
I had $3 off 2 22-oz cans of Gerber Goodstart formula that was a MF coupon. I had 2 $3 off ONE 22-oz can of Gerber Goodstart formula at Target (Target coupons), and I had a $10.75 formula check.
$22 per can = $44 ; minus the $3 off 2 cans = $41; minus the 2 $3 off 1 can coupons = $35 ; minus the $10.75 formula check = $24.25 out of pocket. So I almost got 1 can for free using all those things.
When you just have formula checks, it may be wiser to buy smaller sizes. A smaller can of Goodstart costs $13.29 at Target and makes 90oz. Let's say, for example, you have a $5 formula check. That brings it down to $8.29 for 90oz, or 9 cents per ounce. A can of Goodstart that makes 164oz is $22. Minus the $5 formula check would be $17. When you do the math, that makes it 10 cents per ounce. Not a huge difference but pennies add up.
Sorry for the math mumbo-jumbo. Hope it made sense!
ETA: Here's another thought. If you're only supplementing and don't need so much formula, the bigger checks on smaller cans are really the best option. Let's look again at the $22 can of GS. With just the $10.75 formula check, that makes it $11.25 for 164 ounces. With a $10.75 formula check, the smaller can is only $2.54. Yes, it's a little more than half of the bigger container, but it's also a huge difference (3 cents per ounce vs. 7 cents per ounce).
I think most (if not all) formula checks say on them "Limit one per purchase" so it really depends on the store/cashier. I usually buy my Similac at Meijer, and have been able to use 4 $5 checks on one tub (that costs $20.99, YAY for .99 formula!) several times. But other times, the cashier has denied me and says I can only use one check. In that case I hopefully have a mfr coupon and I stack it w/ a check to at least get it for half price. Good luck! Glad Charlie is liking & doing well with the forumla!

The legit way.
Manufacturer coupon + Store Coupon + Rebate Check = Savings
The MM way:
TRU and Kmart both let me stack checks as long as it doesn't go over the sticker price and they had the same names on them. Well, TRU needed the same name. Kmart didn't care.
I would make sure the checks were added up to about $2 less than sticker price so I would get it for about $2.16

You need to write a book about couponing. That could be the title.

No worries! I can't think of anything I'd need. I'd just like to see them go to someone that can use them. Feel free to PM me where to send them and they're yours.
