We have our first appointment with a pediatric allergist this coming Monday, and both of my kids are getting skin tests. Just wondering, from the moms that have been there before, do you have anything to share about what to expect? Any tips you can give me ahead of time?
I have twins and we're doing their appointment and tests together, and I'm bringing someone else with me to help because they said I'd have to keep them from touching their backs for 40 min. I'm not sure how that's going to work with two squirmy (and strong!) 11 month olds...
Re: First skin test appt tips?
Yes.. bringing someone is a must! i wish i did and i had only one child.
Bring a portable dvd player for them if possible (or an ipad).. a new toy perhaps. coloring book..stickers.. movie. I though testing usually last 20 minutes.. 40 is a loooong time.
my first visit sucked. no one told me that they shouldn't squirm (my son ended up rubbing his back on my chest immediately after they left the room b/c of the immediate reaction and then he rubbed his face on my chest -it was a total mess.
if there is an allergy, leave with a prescription for an epipen
Good luck and hopefully there is no allergies!
