I am writing thank you cards following my daughter's birthday party and I've come across a strange situation. The list I have for who gave what gift doesn't list one of the families that came. That's no big deal if they didn't give a gift but I'm honestly not sure if they did or didn't. I haven't found a card or gift. I don't think we would have lost the card and/or gift but anything is possible. I'd like to send a thank you card but if they didn't bring a gift I don't want to put a general thanks for the gift and them think I am being rude BUT if they did bring a gift I would like to thank them for that exact gift. What do I do?

This and something like, "Your presence was greatly appreciated! We look forward to seeing you again soon."
ITA. Perfect generic sentiment.
