Typically I have killer, blinding migraines around my time of the month. Since pregnancy, I've only had one - and I was told pre-headache by the OB to cease taking Excederin extra-strength migraine pills and to instead take the extra strength Tylenol. Having tried XS Tylenol before, I knew they were little good for me (no affect whatsoever). When the first migraine came, however, not a single store in my entire city (no lie) had any XS Tylenol to even try. I suffered for roughly three days with a migraine. For the last couple of months I've been headache free.
Yesterday afternoon I had the tell-tale signs of a migraine coming on. Last night I was up sick all night, not morning-sickness but all the reverberations I know from suffering with a migraine. This was despite taking the Tylenol, which of course I knew was a futile move to begin with.
Today I'm feeling even worse and know if something doesn't happen soon I'm really going to be in for some pain.
Is there anything OTC that someone has used to successfully fight migraines? I'm sooooo tempted to get my Excederine bottle back, but the OB has me freaked out about the ingredients.
TIA
Re: Anyone successfully dealt with migraines?
I've had one each week but only thing I can do is drink some form of caffeine and then put a bag of peas on my neck to decrease the swelling in my neck muscles that are compressing the blood vessels. I look insane with the bag of peas but it works.
Tylenol sucks
I suffered with migraines from the time I was in grade school through my mid thirties when I was getting them for multiple days, weekly. Then, when I started my iui's I went to an acupuncturist. Since that time, 10 months ago, I have only had one headache and when I went in she brought it under control such that it was gone the next morning.
Biggest boost in my quality of life imaginable. It has affected my career, my love life, and my general day to day ability to enjoy life and plan fun things. I now only go twice a month, but I still love it.

I have also been suffering from migraines but I was totally unprepared for them as I had never had one before. I suffered for about 3 days when I finally called my doctor. I was a mess b/c I hadn't slept, I was in pain, etc...
My Dr. gave me Tylenol 3 (with codeine) and it helps. A lot. Also, I was told to eat some protein right before bed - its a blood sugar thing.
Now that I've said that, I should also note that many, many, many women will not take T3 nor will their doctors prescribe it (I've picked that up from TB boards. One gal on my birth month board said her doctor told her to 'suck it up'). I have super-relaxed doctors, though.
I want the healthiest baby I can possibly have just like everyone else. I am avoiding the obvious things that harm the baby but, at the end of the day, anxiety, stress, pain, misery and sleeplessness are going to have an effect on your LO as well.
I know you had these headaches before so this may not be the same for you but ever since my BP has come down the headaches are very few and far between.
And last, I'm really, really very sorry. They are so miserable.
