it seems weird and I certainly never had one.....plus it seems like a lot of the kiddos hate it anyway so why force them? I'm not trying to be snooty....I am wondering why this is all the rage now and who came up with the fad.....

Re: Who came up with this smash cake thing?
Maybe it is more regional. While it is certainly done here, it is not super common. I had never heard of it until I ordered Nolan's birthday cake when he turned one.
I am not a huge fan of it. Kind of awkward to have my kid on display like that, but whatever! I only got them because there was no extra charge at our bakery when ordering a cake for a first birthday.
Same here.
It is always cute to see a little one dive into their birthday cake...so much so that my great grandmother pushed my baby brother's hands into his big cake, just because she wanted to see him have fun and be covered in icing. It was pretty adorable.
We did a smash cake for her photo shoot, but at her party, I just cut her a piece of her big cake and let her play in it/eat it.
It didn't seem remotely wierd to us...we had fun with it, but if you don't want to do it, there's certainly no reason you have to.
After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!
