bonus - what would you do?

What a week of unexpecteds at work... I completely forgot about our summer bonus! I got to work and thought "uh oh.. that's an envelope on my desk. Am I fired?" I opened it up and it's my bonus. Equal to one pay check (without deductions, so actually more than a paycheck!).

I would love to blow it, but I need to be smart.

I can pay bills, make part of an early mortgage payment, or get a dryer and kitchen table (our dryer went out and our kitchen table is super-tiny).

Tell me what you would do with it if you got your bonus today.

If my bills for the month are up to date, my savings okay, and everything else accounted for, I would use a good amount to get myself a little treat, like a new game, art supplies or make up. I would also get a little treat for my BF,and put the remainder in savings for a later time.

That or use it for my summer vacation later on!

Since we have a ton of July birthday and one August birthday gifts to buy in the next three weeks, and I just spent money on concert tickets.... I would get the birthday gifts and bank the rest. (But that is me.)

For you, I'd say dryer!!

Dryer first bc that's a necessity. Then instead of a new kitchen table, I'd use the rest to pay bills. When I get extra money like that I try to prioritize our needs vs our wants. A kitchen table when you already have one falls below the need to pay bills. Dryer comes first because this is a necessary and unexpected expense. You would have had $$ for your bills and mortgage already, but not for a new dryer. That being said, I'd save some of the money for yourself - it IS your bonus afterall! New shoes, etc.

I would buy a new fridge since ours is circa 1987 and ready to die. Hope you have fun with whatever you decide to do. Make sure you spoil yourself!!!!!!!

Dryer and Kitchen table. I'm all about using bonuses for fixing things around the house unless you need to catch up on bills. If your all caught up and they would be bonus payments get the dryer you need and the kitchen table you want.

Well your monthly bills are already budgeted for, correct? If so, than I would get the dryer and then the table with what is left. And if there is not enough left for the table you want, you shouls put the $ in an envelope labeled "table" and add a little to it once a week or every other week until you have enough for the table. Also, I recommend garage sales for the table. HTH

All very good points! I'm going to go with the dryer first. They're roughly $85 used around here.

I'm buying a tanning package $30... and then use the rest for bills.

It's totally unexpected money, so it's an exciting day!

You lot are so much better than me! I would be hightailing it to my nearest Jimmy Choo or Manolo Blahnik store and getting a pair of killer shoes to add to my collection. Mmmm.... You know where I am going on my lunch hour!!!
