I saw on the book club board you read Divergent. How is it? I really need a new good book. I have this on my to read and was wondering how it was. I read the kindle sample and the 1st few chapters seemed interesting. I am in desperate need of a good summer book. Since I know you are a HG and Twilight fan too I figure we have similar taste in books : )
Re: **howleyshell**
I listened to it on an 11 hour drive to Texas with the munchkins in the back watching every movie under the sun (no DH).
I really enjoyed it. I wasn't on the edge of my seat and not wanting to stop to let the boys pee like I was with HG but it really kept me entertained and engaged.
It's similar to HG in regards to age of female lead and futuristic dystopian society and it's got some good suspense but that's kinda where the comparison stops.
This lead character is VERY well developed. I was more into her than I was into Katniss. HG was more about the events for me because it was all unfolding so fast. This one's a bit more character development focused but in a great way. She really evolves and comes into herself and it's cool to watch.
I wouldn't say that it was better than HG for me but it was really good and knowing the author is so young was really shocking for me. Character development? Sure, someone could do that with a 16 yr old well at 22 but she does an amazing job of really developing and explaining a society with the insight I don't think many have at 22.
With HG (at least the 1st) the society is more of a setting and a background to the games but in this one the society is almost a character in and of itself and she does an amazing job with it.
There's going to be a sequel and frankly I don't think I'll be dying to read it. This book finishes up nicely and there's no way the next one can be similar just based on the story - it'll be more of a continuation. I'll want to read it but I'm not on the edge of my seat and thirsting for more like I was with HG.
I swear... HG was similar to Twilight and Outlander for me in that it was a total crack addiction.
My vote is go for it!
And then lemme know what you think so we can chat about it.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
Don't beat yourself up over Outlander. It's REALLY common for people starting it to go "I don't get the hype"
It took about 200-300 pages for me. It's not a lot considering it's an 800+ page book but it's a HUGE investment of faith up front.
I never would have continued it were it not for my BFF gushing about it and pushing me along.
If you're really struggling with it but want to see what the hype is about may I recommend the audio book?
I struggled with some of the gaelic and the audio book really helped there.

That is good to know. I probably got about 200 pages into it. I had it from the libray and it was overdue so I just gave up. If I actually buy it for my kindle I will have no excuses!! The audio book is a good idea. I have actually never listened to an audiobook before so I will have to think about that. I like books that are a series so I want really want to love it. I am going to make this a goal for the summer to read this book. Maybe I can read it while I am at the beach for a week in July. I will be sure to let you know when I take the plunge again.
