I recently had mastitis and took a 10-day course of antibiotics. Then I was paranoid that I might have thrush - my nipples are pink, sore, burning occasionally, and I have some tingling sensations in my boobs. However, we stopped using the nipple shield recently too, so it could just be normal latching issues. I had my 6 week pp check-up the other day, and the doctor was pretty vague about whether she thought I had it or not.. pretty much it went like this "I don't think it's thrush... well maybe on that side (the left). I'm just going to write you a Rx for APNO cream in case..." Umm ok?? So I take the Rx to CVS and they look at it like it's in a foreign language. They have no idea what it is, and the girl tries to give me over-the-counter Lanolin. Umm no, it's definitely a Rx and I proceed to tell them they have to mix it and it's made of 3 different things etc.
Anyway, has anyone been prescribed this? The doctor said use it "5 times a day as needed" but online I've read to use it after feeding which is obviously a lot more than 5 times a day. Also, this is a dumb question, but am I supposed to put it right on the front of my nipple too? Like where the milk actually comes out? Or just on the areola and around the sides of the nipple? Anything else I should know? Oh, and DD is not showing any symptoms of thrush.
Re: APNO cream?
I have it. Don't take your script to CVS - you need to find a compounding pharmacy to fill it.
I put it on after every feeding.. all over the nipple. Helped A TON. Just remember not to "double dip".

I forgot to say they actually called the doctor for the "recipe" and ended up mixing it for me
Thanks, I will start putting it on the entire nipple.
This website is a great website and has the recipe and directions for application:

I found a compounding pharmacy through this website:

It really helped me, I had the same exact issue.
