Non-Clicky Poll: Blanket or No Blanket

So here's the story...my LO LOOOOOOOVES to have something soft by his face/head while sleeping.  Has pretty much since birth.  I *KNOW* we're not supposed to have anything in the crib that they could potentially suffocate with.  I took the bumpers off, but decided to give him a blanket that my BFF's Mom knitted for him, because it had HOLES in it!  He IMMEDIATLEY took to this, reaching in the holes, pulling it up to his face when we lay him down...but the problem is that when I go in to check on him, he often has this blanket OVER HIS FACE!  It freaks me out, but he never fusses.  I move it away, and no problem.

SO...do you let LO sleep with a blanket of any sort?

Re: Non-Clicky Poll: Blanket or No Blanket

  • He used to, but we recently stopped tucking him in for 2 reasons. 1 - it is too warm, even with the A/C he doesn't need more than feetie jams; 2 - he moves around so much now,so it was pointless. We used it to tuck him in from the waist down, and he would kick himself out from under it within minutes anyway, so it wasn't serving a purpose anymore.

  • No blankie yet for DS2- his muslin sleep sack is a bit too big though and he sometimes grabs onto some of it like a blankie!

I just ordered some Aden & Anais loveys- they're muslin as well, so very breathable!! Maybe your LO would like something like that?

  • Isaac sleeps with a blanket - an afghan blanket that is pretty holey as well.  He loves it.  I try not to use other blankets because the suffocation thing worries me as well.

  • he only gets a small touchy blankie when he naps in the swing (he pulls it up against his face).  He gets nothing in the crib except for him, 2 pacis and the FP seahorse (which he sometimes kicks and it starts up in the middle of the nap/night :))

  • We've been giving him a crocheted blanket at night, since it's more breathable.  And only when it's really cool in his room.

    We have these, too.

During naps he sleeps with a blankie my mom knitted for him but I don't put it in at night yet.

  • LO has to have something in his hands to go to sleep - or he scratches my face to h*ll, or wakes himself up grabbing at his own face. He sleeps with a lovey like this

Except it's yellow and pooh bear. He moves around too much for a blanket to stay on. But he holds it and cuddles it, it's adorable.

  • We put an A&A muslin receiving blanket over her. It doesn't stay on usually, but she loves pulling it up to her mouth and nomming on it. It's breathable and very light, so I'm fine with it, though we did just start giving it to her when we stopped swaddling a month ago.

  • M has two blankets, tucked under the mattress, low down: one cotton cellular and one flannell quilt my mum made.
    Mum to W (4) and M (nearly 2)
  • we have a disney blanket (with heads on the corners) in the crib but we put it off to the side.  if he really wants it he can drag himself to it lol.
  • We don't.  Obviously I would worry about suffocation but with blankets, I'm more concerned about strangulation.  Can you get him a little lovey, we have a 12"x12" soft lovey with a monkey head that I would put in bed with him.  Or, can you find some kind of soft breathable fabric and cut it to be about 12"x12"?

  • I give G his blankie to fal asleep with and then take it away once he's asleep. Humph...now that I read that I sound like a horrible person-once you're asleep I'm gunna steal your security mwa ha ha! Anyway, that's what I do. Hopefully I'm not scarring my kid for life. :-)

  • We wrap DD in a blanket... taco style is the best way to describe it.  It makes the transition from nursing to crib easier, and has reduced her waking up in the middle of the night dramatically.  I make sure that the blanket under her is flat and that she is facing the open side (she's a side sleeper.)  She loves to grab the blanket an snuggle it around her when she wakes at night.  So far she's kept it away from her face.

At first we tried a crochet blanket, but her little fingers kept getting intertwined in the holes and that made her cranky.

  • I tuck him in w/ an A+A blanket from the chest down- arms out. I use it like you would a flat sheet- tucked tightly around the mattress.

  • My boys get nothing in their crib with them.  In the cooler months they sleep in sleep sacks, since May they have been sleeping in footies or summer jammies depending on the temperature in their room.
