Success after IF

Spotting @ 16 wks?

I went pee before dinner and saw what I'd describe as a coffee stain (fresh) in my underwear - watery & light brown.  Wiped and there was a little bit of mucusy tissue, also tinged light brown.  When I sat down to dinner I felt like my uterus was tightening a little. way down low, close to my pubic bone.  So, now I am lying down with a glass of water.

I had light brown spotting with Cal at 14+ weeks and again at almost 17 weeks.  I don't recall seeing any mucus or tissue, or having my uterus tighten.

I'm sure it's normal, but as always, it's disconcerting, so I wanted to check in with you all and see what you had to say.

I first felt the baby last Saturday and have only a few times since, but I have as recently as last night (and I think today too).  So, that puts my mind at ease.

I've also had a lot of back pain this week BUT I strained it badly on Saturday (while scrubbing the tub!), so there is good reason for it.  But I don't know if that stress might have anything to do with this spotting incident.

  • Personally I would do exactly what you are doing, laying low, drinking watch, etc.  I would call my OB first thing in the morning if I was your though, its better to be safe than sorry! I'm sure its nothing sweetie!

This exactly.  Take it easy tonight and call the OB in the morning.  I know this is nerve wracking (I bled a lot in my pg with Reagan), but the chances are that everything is just fine.

  • I think resting is a really good idea. Hope it stops soon. Hang in there.
  • Agree with pp - rest and call your ob in the morning.  If it gets worse, call your OB tonight and go in.

I agree with this. I also had brown spotting with James at around 15 weeks. Turned out fine, of course. Will be thinking of you!

  • Right at 16 weeks exactly, I had bright red spotting with the twins.  Enough to totally freak me out.  There was a huge snowstorm on a Saturday night, and I was home alone with Ava, so the on-call doc told me to just take it easy that night and call in the morning.  I didn't have any more bleeding after that.  I went in on Monday for an ultrasound, and they couldn't find anything wrong.

I know bleeding/spotting is so scary no matter what, but it sounds like this is definitely old blood.  I think you are doing the right thing by just taking it easy!

  • Well, brown means old blood, not fresh so, that's sort of a plus... nothing is actively happening (hopefully!)

Personal question that you don't have to answer (just something to think about).  Have you had sex in the last couple days?  That can most certainly cause a little bit of spotting.

You're doing the right thing by resting and drinking some water.  And like others said, call OB if anything gets worse!

    Thinking good thoughts for you!

Hahaha - nope!  Sex disappears in this house once pregnancy happens! :)

  • I echo what the others said..take it easy tonight, and call your OB in the morning. I know that any bleeding is scary, but brown is good meaning that it's old blood.

  • I'm sorry you're going through this...I'm sure it's nothing to worry about and everything is fine, but my OB says if/whenever spotting happens to call and come in.  So if it were me, I'd call, at least to let them know.  Hope nothing else happens! Thinking of you...
  • I would definitely call the OB first thing today.  I'm sure everything is just fine.  I was having some bad cramping a couple weeks ago and called and they said to drink water and keep my feet up and call if it got worse.  They said if I started spotting at all then they wanted to see me.  I would go in and get checked out just to ease your mind that everything is okay!  How stressful!
