baby food grinder/maker

I'm considering one as my plan to use the blender isn't working - blender requires too much food.  I have no idea what to get.  I don't mind spending a little money, but don't want to shell out a fortune for something we'll only use a short while.  Wondering if a food processor would work well.  But, want whatever I get to do the job well.  Do I really need a baby bullet or baby brezza?  What do you use to make/grind/puree food for your LO?

Re: baby food grinder/maker

  • I'm going to use the food processor that we have, if I need to make more food at one time I'll do that. I'll freeze any extras in so I only have to make a batch every so often. I see no point in getting a baby version.

  • I'm a FTM, and I really want to make my own baby food once LO is old enough so I wanted something I would be really likely to use. I registered for (and received) the baby brezza after a LOT of research because even though it IS another gadget you probably don't need, I think its ease of use will encourage me to make baby food. The baby brezza is one machine that steams and blends, so its less "stuff" to take out/prep therefore less work and effort required on my part.
  • I think a food processor would work fine.

If you want another option, I'd look into the regular Magic Bullet - not the specific for baby one though...it costs double, and makes half the amount.  I don't understand how putting a smiley face on something warrants an extra $50 price tag!

I LOVE my bullet, use it on a regular basis (hummus, salsa, pesto, shakes...etc) and you can get a deluxe version at Costco or Bed Bath & Beyond that includes a large blender attachment.

Buy some baby food jars off Amazon.com and voila!  :)

  • We're planning on getting a Baby Brezza - the appeal of an all-in-one machine that steams as well as blends is super-appealing, because it's one less step, one less thing to clean, etc.
  • I used our cuisinart miniprep and it worked great!  No need to buy a "baby food maker."  Babies don't eat purees forever (DS only did for three months) and you can use a food processor for lots of things.

  • I would just get a small food processor (3-4 cup capacity).  It's so easy to steam things in the microwave or on the stovetop, so I don't think an all in one machine is necessary.  The all in ones also have a smaller capacity, 2.5 cups.  The food processor will probably get more use too, even after your LO is done with purees,  since it's more versatile.  Here's a link with more info on tools for making your own baby food.

I use ziplock steamer bags for almost every meal!  LOVE THEM!  Plus they're cheap and fast.  :)

  • I use a cuisinart food processor.  I have the large one that I use for big batches when I want to freeze things, and I also have a mini one that is great too.  You really don't need a special baby food maker.

  • Use a small or large food processor and you'd be fine.  We haven't made much.

DD ate purees for only a few months.
