My DD had a reaction the second week of June (her lips swelled up horribly and we took her to the ER) - despite calling 3 allergists, no one can see her til late July.
Was this typical for you guys to schedule an appointment? I thought they would want to see her sooner. We spoke to the pedi after the ER and they didn't have us come in (just referred us to an allergist and told us to have the epi and benadryl).
It has been horrible waiting, because I'm not quite sure what DD is allergic to (like is it pine nuts too, etc), and I also worry about if she does have a reaction - yes I have an epi pen and benadryl, but I would like to feel a little more reassured about the whole situation, know the type and severity of her reaction, and just discuss it all with the allergist.
Re: Nerve wracking month (pre-allergist)
DD broke out into hives on her face after eating some cheese and we got a referral to the pedi allergist. When I called a couple weeks ago the soonest appt I can get is mid July an hour away from us at 7:30 in the morning. Ugh. I'm avoiding all dairy, egg, nuts, berries and fish/shellfish until we get tested. This includes touching these items as that seems to be how DD reacts.
I would just be overly cautious and avoid anything you think might have caused the reaction for the time being.

Our pedi ordered the blood test also.
Call your pedi to see if they can do the blood test now. I think it took us a month or so to see our allergist the first time also. Once you become a patient, you can get appointments sooner if you need to.
After going to the ER we had an appointment with an allergist within 2 weeks. Is it your 5 month old or your toddler that had the reaction? if it's the 5 month old maybe they want to wait so she's at least 6 months old. That's when most allergist want to test.
i know how you feel. knowing the allergies is so much easier. I would avoid all nuts, eggs, dairy, soy for the time being until she gets tested.
