Depending on where you live there are some laws about that. In my state (Illinois) they can't make you go if you are bf'ing. The law says something about not being legal to seperate a child from it's source of nutrition. I got called for jury duty when Will was a week old. I called them and said "I JUST had a baby", response from nasty jury duty lady "I don't care" to which I said "Well,I know there is a state law saying that if I'm breastfeeding I don't have to serve" She got really mad that I knew the law and finally said that they would move me til next summer.

I got called for jury duty a couple years ago and called b/c I wasn't able to go (taking my students on a week long field trip) they said they'd reschedule and I've not been called since then.
I found a phone number and found out I need to get a letter from my OB validating I really did have a baby. Hopefully the jury duty will be postponed until never! Man, I don't know what I would have done if they were going to require me to go...

You could always bring your LO, whip out a boob during the interview and ask sweetly, "This isn't distracting you, is it?" Guaranteed you will never be asked again. Lol!
i got picked for jury duty for when ds was 3 weeks old. all you have to do is tell them you have a lo and are breastfeeding and they will excuse you. thats what i did

So I got an excuse from my doctor verifying I just had a kid, but yesterday I got a letter in the mail from the courthouse saying "Your request to postpone your jury duty service has been granted. Your new date for jury service is September 13, 2011. Blah blah blah."
Wow, they postponed a whole 2 months! But from what you all have said already, I still have a valid argument that I am breastfeeding right? Unless they want to give me a 15-20min break every 3 hours so I can pump somewhere.

Why won't they just leave me alone!?!
Yes, you will just need to have your doc re-verify you most likely or say you will need 20 minutes every so often to pump. And they will not leave you alone because it is your civic responsibility and they shouldn't 'leave you alone' just because it is annoying to you.

Nah, they definitely should leave me alone because they are annoying me.
In all seriousness though, I dont mind doing my duty, I actually always wanted to get jury duty. Just figures their timing sucks. Not interested in making extra trips to my dr's office every 2 months for him to keep writing me notes that say I still delivered a child in May. I wish they would "leave me alone" for 6mo to 1yr. Just another thing I have to remember to follow up on. Bah
