Not sure this is the best board, but I figured it was close since breech is a big cause of c sections.
Do you think it is standard practice to not perform a version on a first time mother? An aquaintance's ob wouldn't do one because it was her first child. I had never heard this before.
Re: Versions for breech presentation
I have 2 friends who's first baby was breech and they both had versions. One worked to turn the baby and the other didn't.
I've never heard that reasoning. But I do think there's conflict among professionals about the best time to do a version, and/or how many of them are willing to actually do it.
DD2 was breech and we were scheduled for a version the day I hit 39 weeks. My OB preferred to do them then, when LO is definitely full-term, because of the possibility of a version or version attempt sending me into labor. I've heard/read that other docs will try earlier b/c supposedly it's easier, since the baby is smaller.
I'm fine with my OB's reasoning and in fact preferred to wait as long as possible for the version, hoping she'd flip on her own -- but in the end, we never got a chance to try b/c my water broke two days before the version attempt, so a c/s it was.
DD1, 1/5/2008 ~~~ DD2, 3/17/2010
i was offered a version with my son ... it was my first.
due to a whole bunch of reasons, i chose not to go there ... but i don't think it's standard practice to NOT offer a version to a first time mom.
Now that I know DD was breech, I know when she flipped, it was 10 days before I had her. I just didn't think much of the stomach achiness that day, I didn't realize that babies who were heads down would go back to breech.
