So from what I understand today is a bad day to come out of lurking but I promise I'm not a troll. I just haven't posted in months because life has gotten really crazy.
My DS has a Milk Protein Allergy, I found about about it when he was 3 weeks, he will be 1 next week. I was just wondering if anyone else has a LO in the same boat and if they have outgrown it yet? Thanks ![]()
Re: Milk Protein Allergy
DD had a suspected milk protein allergy & was on Alimentum until about 12.5 months old. It was around then that we gave her milk and she seemed to have no reaction to it physically but didn't drink it well (i.e. she refused to drink milk cold from a sippy.)
She drinks it totally cold and from a sippy now and loves it.
I was thinking about giving DS a grilled cheese tomorrow but I know I will feel so bad if the dairy makes him sick. He is going to be one in nine days and I would really like to not make him a normal birthday cake and not a non-dairy one, they never taste the same.
Um, but your LO has never known otherwise, so it's not like he's going to be judging your baking skills...
Babies doesn't magically change at 1 year. Have you spoken with your pedi about this?

I know he wont judge my baking skills but everyone else will, non dairy cakes are gross, I had to make a few back when I was nursing.
I talked to pedi and he said to give dairy a try. I just wanted to see if anyone else on here was in the same boat and what it was like for their LO. I just feel so bad trying if it's going to make him sick.
Make him a separate cake. I made DD her own cake anyway. It was a regular, boxed cake, but I wanted her to have her own whole cake.
This, totally. GL with whatever you decide on.

My daughter had a milk protien allergy. I cut out 99% of all dairy from my diet (I kept butter- couldn't cut it out!- and Parmesan cheese if I was having pizza) since she was about a month old.
She is now 11 months old and the pedi suggested introducing some dairy to see how it's going. I started with a half a slice of meunster cheese (mild but yummy), diced into squares, and she LOVED it and had no ill effects besides stinkier than usual poops. I tried giving her yogurt but she hated it, so that's out. We've upped it to
We've upped it to a full slice of cheese and now we've tried 2 or 3 sips of whole cow's milk every few days, at the pedi's suggestion.
I don't know if this makes a difference, but she was entirely breastfed.
Nothing says happy birthday, I love you, like giving your kid a cake that could make them sick.
You think a non diary cake is going to taste funky, try a dairy free, gluten free, soy free, egg free, vegan cake. Thats what my son had an he loved it as did the four other kids and adults at his party with food allergies. Diary isn't that big an allergy to get around, if you're making your own cake you can easily substitute with coconut milk, rice milk, almond milk, or crap you can even substitute with formula.
