Coloring hair

With the boys I waited until 2nd tri to color my hair, but had planned on getting a cut/color for my birthday next week. Did you color during 1st tri, anything specific I should try and use?

Sorry for such a 1st timer question, but this grey hair is driving me insane.

I had my hair colored every 6 weeks the entire pregnancy with both kids, both of my OB's were fine with it. But if your worried about it you could do a semi permanent color.

This was me as well. I spoke with my OB and she said that the chemicals are not on long enough to cause any harm. If I had worked in a salon that would be different, but the duration of a color is pretty short. you can always ask to be near the door or window if possible for some fresh air.

I colored the whole time too. I'd just keep as well ventilated as you can, which you should probably do anyways.

If you are having it "done" you can ask that they take extra care to keep it off your scalp (which is the big concern)...just have them paint it as close to the root as possible...or just use a henna rinse.

I agree with PPs, I would still color. Maybe you can make your appointment for first thing when the salon opens? That may help to not have too much of the smell. Although if you're not sensitive to smells, like I was, that may not even be an issue for you.

My high risk OB said no. Not at all during my whole pregnancy. When I complained to him I said "did you know you are the only doctor who still says you cant' color your hair?" and he said "did you know I'm the only one who's right?"

He was a smartass like that.

I colored the whole time, too. Ventilation was the concern. And even my high-risk OB was ok with it. Strangely, the color wouldn't last long for me. Usually permanent color lasts 3 months or so, but during pg, it was less than 1 month. Weird. I tended to use semi-perm, though, just b/c it was more "delicate" (just in case).

I waited until after first tri with Max, and I think it was close to the end of first tri this time, but just did highlights vs allover color to keep it off my scalp. I agree with others, I think it's fine to do whatever. Big Smile

From what I understand that is a hormone thing. I had a friend who got her hair colored and it turned out all wrong (Black instead of Auburn). She found out she was PG a week or so later and was told by her colorist that it was from her PG hormones.

That's interesting! Glad I didn't end up with blue or green hair then. :-)
