I have a really hard time finding anything remotely interesting and entertaining to do with both kids when we're home other than things like running around in the yard, riding bikes, or just telling them to play with their toys (ok, or the TV). They play well together and like to run around and chase each other and Ben sometimes makes up things for Cooper to do with him, but really, I feel like I should be able to think up things that are fun for both of them. Ben has never cared much about any sort of craft projects and the idea of trying to coordinate both of them with fingerpainting or anything messy makes my head hurt. I think Cooper would still eat play dough. Anyone have any good ideas? They're 1 1/2 and 4 1/2.
Re: activities for two kids
My kids are really into playing kitchen/ restaurant with each other. They pretend to eat the play food etc.
They also like to push/ ride on the toys with wheels. If you have one of those plastic disc sleds from winter, I'd bet they would play on that together. They could pull each other around on the carpet.
*Definitely forts. And empty boxes (bigger the better)...spaceship, pirate ship, simple decorating, make costumes out of household items to match
*Design obstacle course in backyard from household items - time them?
*Make cookies or mini pizzas? Really draw out the steps, count, mix, cookie cutter shapes, bake, decorate
*Toilet paper roll bowling?
*Make a hopscotch path (good counting too)
*Plant a small garden - read book, plan, buy seeds, plant, make signs for each seed
I should restock their kitchen and see if I can get them to play with it and really do some pretend play. Cooper's a little on the young end for really doing very involved pretending and Ben gets irritated when he doesn't play along "right".
We often put all of the couch pillowso n the floor to jump on and today I made a little more of an obstacle course. But that lasted about 15 minutes. And Cooper did it once or twice and then decided to play with Weebles and Ben got mad and then I had to make dinner. They're both very physical high energy kids. They just like to RUN. We went out for a pretty long walk after dinner so hopefully that wore them out a little.
I'll have to try boxes and see if they can figure out a plan with that... I'm sure we have some in the garage.

Mostly my kids just fight with each other right now. But...some things they like doing together:
bubbles (Syd blows, Sarah catches)
catch (or roll, really)
forts - I built the tent that pinktulips posted above from grosgrain and they love to play in that
put out a couple tubs of water, cups, spray bottles, water guns and let them get soaked
drawing, especially sidewalk chalk
It's hard to come up with stuff for both of them to do together because of the age difference and the opinions that come with both.
