SLEH

I'm curious about SLEH-Med Ctr....I had my daughter at Methodist and absolutely loved it, but this time around my OB doesnt have privileges there anymore.  So St Luke's it is.

My question for those who delivered there:  did you like the care you received?  how were the staff with your visitors?  what are the rooms like?  single or shared?

TIA,

Heather

i had a pretty good experience, despite the numerous complications. the nurses were very attentive and helped me clear the room when my s-dad decided to break out his laptop. drove.me.nuts.

dd had some complications as well and they were very understanding and did everything they could do to comfort and calm.

the rooms are private and include a shower and (uncomfortable) sofa for your dh.

When are you due?  In March 2012 St. Luke's is opening their new Maternity Center in TCH and closing their current ward...which is outdated IMHO (not saying Methodist isn't though).  .  They currently have two shared rooms, but from what I understand they rarely have to use them. Since it's your second child and if you end up with it you could always ask for an early discharge.

They're moving toward a concept of laboring/delivering/recovering in one room...that's where Methodist has them beat right now.  The new building will be amazing and offers so many amenities.

I am curious, is your OB in The Women's Specialists?  I am curious if/when my OB won't be able to deliver at Methodist.

I had a wonderful experience at St. Luke's. I wouldn't have changed a thing. The nurses take care of mom and baby, which I loved. I delivered my first at another hospital, and it felt like the baby nurse hardly saw me and my nurse didn't even give my son a second glance. Plus, that's fewer people coming in and out of the room all day and night.

The nurses were very helpful and friendly, no matter what kind of question we had. They were equally nice to me, my husband, and my mom.

The rooms were fine - nothing special but not bad. I loved that we had a glider (didn't have that the first time around). We used the glider constantly. I would love to see the new maternity ward that's opening soon. I'm sure it'll be amazing.

Kelley and I have the same OB... I was actually told, as a new patient, that I had to deliver at St Luke's by the staff when I made my initial appointment, so I wonder if they've been working on shifting all of their patients to St Luke's for a while now.

I had no problems with St Luke's. I had a scheduled c-section and they were very low key and attentive. No problem with visitors. We got a single room, they only had the two shared. Nursing staff and the lactation consultants were very nice.

I didn't get a lot of experience with the staff with DD, but she spent 2 and a half days in the NICU so we only had her in our room for about 24 hours before discharge. They were VERY cautious, and she was at Texas Children's.

That's the only thing I didn't like: I liked being connected to TCH and it was one of the reasons I chose my OB, but the walk is REALLY long when you've had a c-section!

My doc is Dr. Bobo and I'm due in February.  When I went in for blood work a two weeks ago I was told that TCH Maternity isnt opening until March (so I barely miss the deadline) and that Dr. Bobo is delivering at SLEH until the Maternity Ward opens up.

Who knows, maybe hopefully TCH will get it together and finally open the Maternity Center earlier than expected.
