NBR: (fam dramaz related) Need reassurance

So my family of origin doens't really give 2 sh!ts about my little family. We're in the same state and they make no efforts to see us. Surprise surprise! Well my sister had signed up to work at German Camp (stupid) when we were here and my mom said, "You can bail on that, I mean Kelley is only here for a bit of time.." Sister says she wants to bail, plans to come up here, I offer to pay her to help me, etc.

Get a call today (3 days before she's to come up here) and my mom is now requring her to go do German Camp. Mom wanted some sort of reaction from me and I just said, in a monotone voice, "Ok". Not sure what else she wanted.

Anyway, the place I need reassurance is this, Sister's grad party is on Sat. We WERE going to stay over so we could take sis back with us on Sunday but now I just want to go to the party and back to our house in the same day (2 hour drive each way) because:

1)  They don't have room for us, as is, they had to divide us up into different rooms - me sleeping with sister, Rhayna on a floor, Owen and Roslyn in a guest room, etc.

2) Now they invited another kid to live with them for a month while we're visiting so they REALLY don't have space for us.

3) Sister is going to German camp early on Sun AM so we won't even see her that day.

4) We have SO MUCH to do up here (here to do a massive, way-too-big renno project) and now have no help so wasting a day just with our thumbs up our butts isn't going to work for our already-crappy timeline

5) My best friend from High School who _IS_ coming up here for a couple of days doesn't have a place to stay Sat night so would have to go back to her hometown, an hour in the wrong direction, and then come back the following day and onto our house an additional 3 hours. Its really inconvienent for everyone.

My mom WILL make this into a "you're punishing us for Sister not coming up" crap....TELL me I'm doing the right thing by going down for the party and coming back the same day. I hate irrational people!

    You need to do what  works for your family.  Since they changed the original plan-you can easily change yours to accommodate your needs.

    I think it's great that you're willing to drive that far for just the day so that you can still attend your sister's party....your family should understand that it's just easier with two young kids to do it this way.  I'd totally do the same thing (or else maybe not even go at all!).  Hope your mom and sister see it that way and don't make a big deal out of it.

    This, 100%!!!!!! Stand strong. Their plan changed, therefore your are adapting to that new plan.

    I see no problem with your new plan at all. Do what works best for you and your family and don't feel guilty!
